I was in a gun shop the other day and saw a Siamese Mauser on the used gun rack. I picked one up a few years ago for $80.00. The one in the gun shop had a hang tag price of $400.00. Wow! I have seen these rifles sporterized and rebarreled into .45/70. Now that would be nice set up. If I found a sporterized Siamese Mauser, I might try that. Take care...

Joe,
I agree that the prices of decent military surplus arms is marching right off the chart. You did well to buy when you did. All the best...

Hi Joe

The 45-70 Siamese Mauser rocks! Given a decent barrel and a good gunsmith, it can acheive amazing results on par with Ruger No1s. Often, they tend to be a tad heavy, depending on how they were sporterized, but, the one I am familiar with uses a kevlar/carbon fiber stock and was built to a weight of 7.5lbs. A friend of mine owns it and we have developed some great loads for it that truly are amazing.

IF you can find the action at a decent and affordable price, it is a superb
basis for a unique custom. Besides 45-70, the 450 Alaskan and others are right at home with this action.
