I'm of the mind that it is shortened, expanded with a 40 degree shoulder but my info may not be up to date or even correct.

A quick look at Ammo-one.com shows these JDJ 7mm rounds:

7mm JDJ, 7mm-30 JDJ, 7mm JDJ No.2, 280 JDJ

I know the original was based on the 256 Win., the 7mm-30 was based on the 30-30 and there is little information about the rest.

The JDJ line of 7mm cartridges was never very popular so reload data, manufactured cartridges, and information is all scarce.

I think Mr. Jones just like to try new things and while some of them were "unique" most were just different enough to call them wildcats.

When I talked to my friend and aske about the parent case, he thought it was a .308 Win. I asked it might be stamped 307, which would actually make his barrel a 7 MM JDJ 2 (If I understood what I read online correctly).

Yes the parent case is the 307 [ rimmed 308]

I have 2 Barrels a 21 inch bull bbl rifle and a super 16 cut down to 15 and 7/8 with a custom muzzle break to make it just over 18
To be clear I can take the break off to make it a legal hunting pistol.[NY]

This is to allow them to be used for rifle and pistol hunting in NY I have one rifle action and one pistol action! [ Legal Federal Rules]

I reload this using the following loads

110 Grain Speer TNT bullets with 40 Gr of AA2460 It is very fast over 2800 in the 21 inch rifle and over 2600 in the 16 inch pistol.

120 Ballistic tip bullet with 42 Grains of AA2520 does well too.

I have loaded a few heaver bullets but I am a Velocity guy and they fell short of expectation.

At one time I was able to get 3000 fps with Barns 100 Gr bullets and Win 760 but when I told JD Jones he almost had a heart attack ! so I backed off that load. but it was not causing any pressure signs ?

I shoot the contender. Along those lines I use a 7mm Bellm barrel which requires no proprietary dies. I use the 444 marlin case and the 7-08 sizing die.
120 gr. bullets go around 2500 fps from my 14" barrel. It's a joy to shoot.
I am presently building a custom forearm for it (just started this morning).
It wears a David White 'maximizer' brake for carbine use.
(shown on later post)
Thanks,
Jimmy

Welcome aboard the Hunting Nut gemihur. Grab a beer and pull up a stump mate. Feel free to jump in and share your experience and knowledge mate.

I assume that the maximiser is from David White of D&C Pecision? David is a brilliant gunsmith and a regular contributor here under the nickname of Deer Sniper. I’m actually catching up with David in a couple of weeks when I fly to the US from Australia.

He's a good dude and a fabulous gunsmith.
His business is D&T Custom Gunworks, but you know that!
www.dandtcustomgunworks.com/
I dig his work and have an awful lot of his and Mike Bellm's stuff.
But I do a good bit of whittlin' wood for my guns.
Good to hear from a shooter 'down under'.

very tidy work...and if its main bits came from D.S. we KNOW it will shoot great.

Yep...D&T Custom...had a brain fart Laughing

Love the look of your carbine mate, and as Elvis said, we know David’s work so it will be a shooter for sure.

Your wood shaping skills are right up there mate, very good indeed. I’m looking forward to seeing the end result on your latest efforts.
