One of my buddies e-mailed these to me, I am told that this is somewhere in SW Colorado near Mancos or there abouts, supposed to be from a few months ago. Not sure, cool critter though.

I can only imagine that it is, as it does not appear to be what I would consider as "albino" in the true sense of the word.

Y'all are correct. He has dark eyes. A true albino would have pink eyes. This would be a genetic mutation.

Vince - The normal bull elk coloring is head, mane and legs are a very dark brown with the body a medium to sometimes golden brown and the rear end being closer to tan - see photos. I once heard a bull elk ask if his horns made his butt look big so I shot him.
Unfortunately, I would have to go into the garage to see my wall mounts, the darlin' wife won't let me keep them in the house. P.S. - neither of these photos are mine, I scrounged them - I would love to say they were as I would be happy harvesting either one of these beauties!

How far off his natural colour is he? I am assuming that elk are basically brown like all other deer. |
Our deer are mostly grey. They tend to be more red during the summer when they have a different hair on them though.

There have been a couple of "white" Red Deer stags sighted in the UK recently.
One of them is now dead, as some low life shot it out of season & took the head, leaving the rest to rot.
Have a look here to see film of the one in Scotland:

The fallow deer I have encountered out here in Queensland (sub tropical region) vary between a tan colour and dark brown.
Below are pics of the last fallow I harvested. It is a doe (Bambi) and towards the end of Winter. Her back is fairly dark brown with the colour tapering off to tan down her sides and then white on the belly. Around the neck is a grey - tan colour and around the base of the tail she is black and white. All in all she is a very pretty colour....hence my reason for tanning the hide.
Cheers, Vince
