I'm making my father some sand bag to use at the range since we have little critters, 18-20 year old children, who keep taking the ones the rang has when ever someone turns their back. I got the fabric today and will get the sand soon. I just need to know about what size I should make them. I was thinking about 6 inches across by 12 inches long at about 3/4 full of sand. Does this sound right or am I way off on my sizes.

My wife found some cloth bags used for some sort of promotion that are about 8" wide and 10" long and they made good "sandbags" for me, filled with kitty litter (Preferably unused...). However, the next batch I make will be filled with plastic beads. Should be lighter and much cleaner! Sand and kitty litter got dusty after a while.

If you do any reloading for shotguns, the bags that the steel shot comes in work great!!!

I use empty 25 lb. lead shot bags, fill zip lock bags with sand, put them in the shot bags and and tie the bag shut. All the best...

I think 6 X 12 should do just fine.
