Dont know if you guys over in the states have come accross the .338 bench rest? i had a client come out with one the other day - its a 6mm PPC case necked up to take the .338 bullet! He has a PES fully moderated barrel fitted and uses 300grain soft points at about 2400fps!! i couldnt beleive it when he told me how fast he could runthis tiny cartridge at! To take full advantage of the fully moderated barrel he downloads to sub sonic velocity with 250gr bullets and u really only hear the pin drop on the primer! its lethal!! always passes clean through.
What was interesting was he said the sub sonic load penetrates far deeper into ballistic gellatine than the higher vel load, almost twice! interesting............the quicker rounds make more initial trauma and fizzle out quite quik whereas the subs look like a .338 diameter drill has been put thru the block almost to the end of it!! they go the same distance thru as the .338 Lap MAG with the same bullet!

It just seems unreal to me that anyone would fire bullets of this diameter and weight out of the small PPC case. Judging by your comments about it passing deep into the gelatin block it must work fairly well though. I'm not being critical, just dumbfounded. Best wishes.

I know Cal i couldnt beleive it myself!!
The guy in question who had the gun made is a real rifle and firearm affictionado who loves widening the realms of whats possible (even tries the impossibe). Again i thought i had seen a fair few custom calibres etc but when i saw this i thought he was taking the ****!!
He really has struck gold with this format, especially with the fully moderated barrel and has had alot of interest from various people and agencies round the world as to what other applications this lethal little combo could be used for!!
It is as deadly as the grim reaper and the accuracy is as accurate as the more conventional 6mmPPC!! His zeroing targets at 100yds were absolutely phenomanal and with the subsonic loads the sound of the rounds hitting the deer was louder than the shot! he could still produce sub m.o.a accuracy at 100yds with this load!! The overall length of the gun was tiny as well with a real short barrel, a kind of pistolgrip tactical stock whos barrel channel had to be hollowed out abit to accommodate the fat silenced barrel. The rifle was extrememly pointable and virtually no felt recoil!!
The whole project to create this cartridge was fairly expensive and time consuming but i am in no doubt it was worth every penny!!

I can supply pics and load data etc should anyone so require it!!
