What's an accelerator insert?

Remington produced a line of 30 caliber ammo that had a sabot and held a 22caliber bullet and called it the "Accelerator" ammunition.

The E Aurthur Brown company sells sabots to replicate the ammunition, from what I've been told by people who have used the original Remington ammunition small game doesn't stand a chance with a 55gr 22 cal bullet going at 4,200fps in a 30-06Spring.

Well I looked at the link, but I don't exactly understand it??? Care to explain? From what I can decipher from it, you use a .224 caliber bullet, with the sabot around it, then seat it into the 30 caliber cartridge? I'm not sure it that's right or not, but if it is, it's pretty neat!

Yup, you put a .224" bullet in the sabot then seat the sabot with the .224" bullet in the 30 caliber case (with the powder & primer already in the case ofcourse ) and your got yourself a varmin rifle out of that "big" 30 caliber rifle.

Sounds like a pretty neat idea!!!! Maybe once I get into reloading more, I will do some for my KM77VT in .308
