I really liked how the grain stood out on this rifle. Anyone know what type of wood it is?

looks like circassian walnut but I am not sure, could be regular English walnut. I am not an expert.

According to the 28th edition of blue book of gun values. The stock and forearm for this rifle(No. 1-s medium porter 50th anniversary) is checkered circasian walnut. I really like this grain too. I will keep it mind when I go looking to restock one of my more less often used rifles.

Looks like a beautiful rifle. I would like to have one except that I categorically refuse to buy Rugers.

Naw, Bushy, I am just one of the holdovers that is still angry over Bill Ruger's sucking up to the gun grabbers over high-cap magazines and the subsequent withdrawal from the civilian market of Ruger brand Mini-14 magazines. No story, just bitterness. Seeing as how there were companies who chose to fight rather than give in, I feel that they deserve my hard earned money more.
