hunterjoe21, before the metric system Canada used the Imperial measure for liquids(diff then yours) and inches, feet yards, miles(same as yours) for distance and we used the fahrenheit measurement for temperature like you do. We also used pounds for weight and now we use kilograms. We used acres, now we use hectares. Then came metric and now we use liters for liquid and millimeters, centimeters, meters and kilometers for distance and celcius or centigrade for temperature. The only difference between your measurements and our imperial measurements was in liquids. Your miles, feet, yards etc were the same.

1 mile = 1.6093 kilometers
1 kilometer = .62138 miles
1 yard = .9144 meters
1 meter = 1.0936 yards
1 acre = 2.47 hectares
1 pound = .4536 kilograms

Back in the late 70's when the eastern part of the country voted in the Liberal Government with Pierre Elliott (A-Hole) Trudeau as Prime Minister. Mad The west did not vote in any Liberals but because of the population difference the Liberals got in and we were stuck with the Pr--k and he forced the metric system on us saying that most our trading partners were metric and it would benefit Canada to switch to metric. It cost us many billions of dollars and our biggest and best trading partner, the U.S., is still not metric. Further more, everything that gets imported from you has to have French on it and then add that it has to have metric. Talk about extra cost passed down to the consumer. Even after all the Liberal blunders the east is still ready and waiting to vote in another Liberal Government. Talk about the blind leading the blind or how easy it is to lead sheep to slaughter. The west can see what the Liberals are scheming but the east, where the votes are, seems to have a blind eye. The west has actually threatened to join the U.S. on different occasions but nothing has obviously become of that. Our gun laws are also all because of the idiots in Quebec and Ontario. Mad Mad

1895ss tell us what you really think of your government. Very Happy I understand the popultion problem with laws. People who haven't even seen a forest are telling us what to do with them. Along time ago, about 20 years ago, the US wanted to go metric for the same reason, we were learning about it in school, then one day nothing.

Everything I buy down here has metric, French and Spanish on it.

I'm thinking like 1984-86 and by 87 it was gone. I also might be remembering my brother working with it when he was in shool. And I was only off by 10 years, it ain't that much more.

old is 20 years older than my grandma (shes' 82 so 102) and young is anything born in the 1990's.

So I guess most if not all of us is somewhere in the middle.

hunterjoe21, how are you mate?

In Australia everything is sold and measured using the metric system. In all honesty it is much easier to use.

Best thing to do when buying anything, ignore the old measurement system and embrace the new. Forget that 2.54 cm is 1 inch and so on and so on.

Cheers, Vince
