Who would have thought it? U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) scientists looking for ways to control coyote populations in "sensitive" urban areas are taking a serious look atäbirth control. At present, there is no reliable coyote contraceptive, but USDA researchers are testing potential drugs.

Isn't this a waste of time and tax payers money? I have a better way of birth control in coyotes. It's in a 50 grain pill form administered at approx 3800 fps or less, depending on yardage. Lasts forever and no comebacks.

Yeah but...You forget the bleedin' hearts in urban areas. They see you do one in and all hell breaks loose until their favorite "fido" becomes food. Not sure how you would handle coyotes in an urban environment. Wait until they leave the housing project then hammer them?

handle them with a pair of gloves and toss em in the pickup truck!! this is where it becomes touchy, they need to approve baiting at the edge of town and smoke em where they stand

A lady at Wal-Mart was telling me about a friend of hers had her little kids in a fenced yard playing and a couple of yotes tried to get over the fence after them and might have got the kids if not for her husband going out with gun in hand.

I see that story linked above is dated March 2007, but the comments are from 2006? Looks like most of that story came from this May 2000 article.

If it's thier size or smaller, it's lunch.
As far as birth control is concerned, a 52gr Hornady A-Max leaving the tube at about 3300fps works pretty good.

Vince
I personally know three people who have lost pets to coyotes. All the dogs have been tied or chained up when attacked. The coyotes attack in packs and a tied domestic dog doesn't have much of a chance.I stopped chaining my dogs out, I'd rather they have a chance to run, if they escape they still may find their way back. 10 years ago you almost never heard about them around here, now I can go outside almost every night and hear them howlin in the distance.

As the local news is on in the background...
Local park trailhead is closed due to coyote activity in the area...
This is a very popular park that many locals use to walk their dogs. Dog walking is being discouraged, as coyotes are rearing litters in the area, and may attack in their defense.
Tree Huggin activists have decided that these predators have a right to be here, and if they attack MY dogs I should accept it as "What they do". Until one of them loses a pet, it's a "Natural Thing".
Last time I was confronted by a so called "Animal Rights Activist" who claimed to love her pets (she has 5 dogs) I asked the ultimate "SHUT YA FACE" question on predators
"If the guy down the road lost HIS pets to a coyote, and decided the coyote was "Doing What They Do" would it be his fault if YOUR pets were killed the next WEEK?"
"Or would you rather have THAT guy deal with the predators?"

I am so sick of the bleeping bleeping bleeped tree huging bleeping idots who know nothing about the bleeping real world that they are bleeping trying to save. Almost walked out of the Grande Ol' Opry about 10 years ago when one of them started talking about how we should try and save the redwoods and not cut them down. Well it the bleeping women would have read the whole story and see that they had bettels that were killing the whole forest they might think different. These bleeping people who don't get the problems that an over coyete population will do need to house a few with their little pets and see what happens.
