Just returned from my NRA Class for pistol

I am now an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, and an NRA Certified Range Officer.
The head instructor wants me to get Certified as an NRA Chief Range Officer so I can help train Range Officers.
I most likely will do it.

With all of my Certifications, I just have to learn what the hell to do now. wtf wtf

Thanks to you gentlemen for all of the encouragement and advice in the past to give me confidence to take these courses.
I will also give much thanks to my Leverguns family for all of the help.

Eric

Thanks Joe

I just told the guys on the back up Leverguns forum that I don't intend to make any money off of these Certifications.
I really get a kick in passing on any knowledge that I may possess to anybody who wants to learn our sport.
I think that it is called leaving a legacy.

Eric

Hey, well done Eric.

I like your sentiments mate.....same reason I became a Justice of the Peace over here in Australia....we're actually not allowed to make anything from it.

However, don't let anyone take advantage of you mate. There are always those out there that will do so if you let them. If word gets around that you provide a service for gratis then you may well find that you no longer have any spare time to yourself.

Cheers, Vince

Hey Vince,
In Canada they (justices) have to charge for services. The Province has to make their money on every marriage performed. Here in the USA I have a choice as a minister. But Its the only income I have except for a job.
I teach for a living, in the industrial sector and companies pay good money so they can comply with the safety laws. When I teach classes outside of my job I am "cheep" by comparison. You do what you feel is best but you should at least get enough to cover travel and room expenses.

In Australia JP's are not allowed to charge for their services. It is a purely voluntary position.

Justice of the Peace

I witness many the signatures on many different types of documents, many of which are required for court cases. I also spend quite a bit of time supporting juveniles who are in trouble with the law and are being interviewed by the Police.

JP's don't conduct marriages unless they are an authorised Marriage Celebrant. Now they can, and do, charge a fee....sometimes a fairly hefty fee depending on the circumstances.

Cheers, Vince

They are advertising for more! If I became a JP would I be able to move to Austalia for less money? Ha! just kidding around. I couldn't live in a place that restrict guns as much as they do there.
I guess we better get back on topic. If I didn't say it before - Elyboy, Congratulations! Keep learning, it's the only thing that no one can take away from you.

Congrats on the certifications! Party

I'm an NRA Pistol, Personal Protection and Certified RO as well. I teach no more than 2 individuals at a time and I don't charge a fee for my services. I do ask that they make a check out to my gun club for $20 for use of the range and club house.

I don't charge anything to teach gun safety to kids (I use the Eddie Eagle program) or first-time gunowners.

Like Vince said, watch out for the people who'll take advantage of you and it's real easy to get caught up in the moment and over extend yourself teaching classes (which is why I now only teach 2 at a time.)

I have it set that we will have a pistol class at my gun club
www.forestlakesportsmensclub.com the first week of July.
This will coincide with the end of the first 8 week pistol league, and the beginning of the next pistol league.
I figure that it will generate a lot of interest, and also help me with any possible safety issues that will arise with untrained shooters.
A member of the club that give CCW Courses, and is in the Minneapolis PD SWAT Unit wants to help me, and I gladly took him up on his offer.
It should be a lot of fun.

It's funny that in shooting, and dealing with shooters, an idea can snowball into something big, and involve good wholesome family fun. Also shooters are the best people for volunteering and giving help.

Thanks for all of the encouragement guys.

Eric Marleau
