Removing military primer crimps

Some chap with a strange sense of humor gave me 4,000 once-fired .30-06 military brass cases. I started out with a Lyman hand tool to cut out the primer crimps. That got old real fast. I picked up an RCBS swaging die set and went to town on those cases. I will never go back to using a hand tool. How do you folks remove those pesky crimps? All the best...

Howdy Gil. I have never reloaded military brass partly due to mil crimps just never felt like dealin with it. Do you no much about BHA brass? got 200 BHA match cases for the 223 on ebay looks pretty decent. Hopefully i will load some this weekend Very Happy

Not familiar with BHA brass for the .223. Try it and see how it performs. All the best...

Easy and cheap- buy a tapered punch- grind it down SLOWLY until it is slightly larger than the crimp when it bottoms in the primer pocket- put a steel rod of approximately case diameter and long enough to support the case web in a vise- drop a case on it- position the punch in the primer pocket and whack it with a hammer. Cost- under $5.00- production rate- fast. You do not have to hit very hard usually, and polishing the punch makes it easier to remove.
