We got them all at the moment. There was an earthquake, measuring 4.4 and apparently quite shallow, in Townsville…about 600-800 miles north of me…yesterday.
Earthquake Townsville Australia
Also, we have a cyclone (hurricane) that they’re expecting to make landfall in Brisbane on Thursday sometime. It’s not a real nasty, yet, but they have predicted rainfalls of 400mm - 600mm (10” - 12”)per day for a couple of days. Means I won’t have to water the gardens and lawn for a few days, if we don’t float away.

According to the Weather Net, the prediction for your rain the next 2 weeks is 290mm.
The heaviest day being Thursday the 6th at 145mm.
Stay safe and try to stay dry.
Shooting isn't going to happen.

At least I don't have to put up with crazy weather like that! -30 degrees Fahrenheit for a few days isn't near as bad as storms that can wipe you off the map or drown you.
You stay safe down there.

Nope, no shooting mate. The Bureau of Meteorology is really only guessing, albeit educated guesses, most of the time, and they change their mind every few hours (must be staffed by wimmens). Whichever way it goes mate, it’s going to be wet and windy.

This is the first cyclone that has come even close to Brisbane in the 30 years I’ve lived here mate, so it’s going to be a bit of an unknown factor. Luckily I’m not within cooee of the coastline, so the most I’ll have to contend with is wind and rain, both not really a major problem…I hope. A bit of preparation around the yard and we should be OK. I might even set up my hootchie in the backyard, put my camp hair under it and settle in with a good book…love the sound of rain on a tent or hootchie, (although I hated it when in the Army, but I must admit, I had the best night’s sleep under my hootchie in the rain.). Temps like -30°F are something I can’t imagine. Time of year here I love best is Autumn (Fall) and Spring…it’s not hot and I’m not a lather of sweat 24/7.
We’ll certainly be doing the right things to stay safe mate. Thanks for your concern.

12" of rain is unfathomable to me. We'll get some real downpours here from time to time, like 3-4" in 30 minutes but its very rare.
Most rain I've ever seen was when I was living in Kentucky for a short time. I learned what "sheets of rain" really meant LOL!
Good luck down under you all.

On rainfall not sure if it was this cyclone or one prior a couple of weeks ago on the radio they were telling people to prepare for a metre of rain for the week that's about 39" the next week they announced 950mm was expected that's probably about 37". So it gets a little wet.
Don't mind the rain its the wind and everything it blows around that worries me
And the big trees and Branches
Batten down the hatches Vince and all the best through the storm
The Brisbane ferries have stopped, trains and buses stop tonight so the government is expecting something big

The “big” blow and rain hit here at about midnight or a little after. It was certainly blowing when I went to bed at around 1:30am, but not much worse than other storms we’ve suffered. The storm that came through in Nov 2008 was much worse. My daughter lives in Stafford and she said the wind and rain was terrible, with glass sliding doors appearing to be flexing. She is on the top floor of a two storey block of units with a straight “blow” from the airport to her place, so the wind had open slather across there.
It seems the Gold Coast and Bribie Island seem to have copped the worst of the wind and rain…strange because that is at the north and south extremities. We only have heavy rain here right now with the occasional nasty wind gust.
Do you know if Pete (dhc4ever) is faring OK? I haven’t heard hide nor hair from him for awhile.

I see him occasionally but not recently
Think he got a new squeeze and is pre occupied
The area he lives in was blacked out yesterday but should be OK
Wind has only just picked up here the strongest gust has still only been about 35kph
Just one tree across the fence so far hopefully nothing worse happens

Ahh, of course he will be very occupied with a new squeeze.
The wind hit here with a vengeance last night. We had two short power outages, only a few minutes each. I stayed up until about 2am and heard a big thump about 1am. I thought a tree had come down, but it was a power transformer shorting. We are pretty lucky with the power being off all around us, but not in our streets…yet.
Rain is the biggest problem around here…it is almost non stop. They are saying expect up to 800mm, although I reckon we won’t get anywhere near that.
Stay safe mate, and keep a boat handy

Are you safe from floodwaters mate? Are floodwaters from the Bremer and Brisbane Rivers likely to reach you?
Stay safe mate.
