I’m very seriously considering purchasing a .308 Win rifle. A very good mate has a Steven’s 200 for sale at a price I can just afford…at a squeeze - $450.
I am very happy with my Savage .223 REM, so I figure I can’t go too far wrong with a Stevens from Savage.
I’ll know hopefully this week if and when I can get this rifle.

New guns are fun! Getting the ammo for them in these times isn't all that fun though.

Fortunately, 308 ammo is readily available as are handloading components. I have primers, powder and some projectiles, with there not being a real shortage of more. I’m considering something from the Barnes range of bullets, although they can be damned expensive down here. My “go to” Gunshop has the TSX Tipped at:
BARNES
TIPPED TSX PROJECTILE
PER 50
B30362 .308 110GR FB $100.90
B30364 .308 130GR BT $106.90
B30366 .308 150GR BT $111.90
B30368 .308 165GR BT $113.90
B30370 .308 168GR BT $113.95
B30372 .308 180GR BT $117.90
With the non Tipped at a similar price.
They also have a range of Hornady SST bullets, but again they aren’t cheap…
H3019 30CAL 125GR $76.95 /PER 100
H30302 30CAL 150GR $76.95 /PER 100
H30452 30CAL 165GR $82.95 /PER 100
H30702 30CAL 180GR $83.95 /PER 100
Whichever way I go, I will enjoy developing a load for this rifle.

Prices are on par with here. You don't need fancy plastic tips mate.bog std interlocks are a great projectiles and I'm yet to use a bad offering from speer.

when you love the caliber then you should try the FAL or even better the PARA-FAL... especially when there is "Made in Belgium" printed somewhere on its skin...

They are both semi autos mate…not allowed out here in Oz without special approval.
I carried a FN FAL (L1A1 SLR) for many years in the Aussie Army…and put thousands of rounds through it…a fantastic rifle, but bloody heavy after an hour of carrying it in the scrub.

Viince, what about the GS Custom bullets from South Africa? Are they as expensive as the Barnes bullets?

Apparently GS Custom bullets are no longer in production mate. I’m still of two minds about using the CNC turned bullets from Barnes, Outer Edge or Atomic29 Projectiles as they all run to around AUD$90 - AUD$98 per 50 projectiles…quite a bit more than I want, or can really afford, to pay.
I’ll start off with copper jacketed bullets and decide from there if I want to go down the path of CNC Machined bullets.
