My 45/410 is much more accurate with 410 slugs than 45 Colt rounds.
It's also better using 410 shotshells on snakes than 45 Colt shot shells.

I like the slug idea.

Might be OK for a snake gun. I'm unimpressed with the .410 buckshot or slugs. I heard a story about a guy emptying his Judge, loaded with .410s, at a bad guy who wasn't overly fazed. Someone put the bad guy down with a .40 S&W.

ok......so Ive done a heck of a lot of shooting with the wee 410 over the years....
for the use that there pistol is made for....I would load up #2s or #BBs there is 90ish in an once n quarter...so halve that gives you 45 of them hot little BBs...... and no way in hell I would want to be within 30 yards of them...90 yards at full velocity is where they considered nuisance not injury...funnily enough WHY our duck shooting stands are 90 yards apart and you not allowed load heavier than BBs....
as for buckshot.....you can really honk 5-6 balls of 00 or 000 along and from the few Ive fired they seem to slip stream each other and pattern really tightly
solids.....87grn at 1600fps now pumpkin..would you let Slim shoot you with 243 at 300 yards????
the wee gun is finicky...what they like they like, what they dont they loath.... need to pattern them to find what they like.
all purely hypertheticle for us as no way would we be allowed one of them here.

The biggest issue is the 2 inch barrel.
Any one put on of these pistols over a chronograph?

Maybe 1600 ft/sec out of a full length shotgun barrel. Out of a 2-4" barrel... ??

I'd guess somewhere round 800-850 tops.

using a 3" insert in 12 ga shot patterns fine at 15 yards...using my 10" insert it is leathal on everything we have pointed it at..possums,ducks n rabbits all die.

My little 45/410 was chronographed with both the 45 and the 410 slug.
The 45 reached barely over 600 FPS and the slug reached just over 800 FPS. My barrel is only 1.5 inches. Shooting at an 18 inch square target I got two hits on the paper and neither would have been a solid hit on a person. The slugs made a group of about three inches in the 6 inch black bull at the same 25 yards.
Now I know that is about ten times the intended use for the little gun but the demonstration was to find velocity and accuracy for the two rounds. The velocities were corrected to reflect muzzle velocity and I am capable of shooting 1" groups at 25 yards with my 357 so it shows the serviceability of the rounds in little gun.

Good info Paul. Thanks! As I said, I'm underwhelmed with the .410 in these handguns. Better than a sharp stick but ...

I agree Mike! They are belly guns for sure. I should have mentioned that the 45 round was a 200 grain HP. At the velocity at the muzzle it might as well have been a rock. The slug is 1/5 ounce so only about 88 grains.
Neither load is particularly lethal unless you poke it in a bad guys throat and pull the trigger and at that point I think the shot charge would be the best chance of a quick stop.
