So my current project is adding better sights to my daughter's Rascal since both kids are using it.

Got ahold of a EGW Rascal mounting base specifically for the Rascal. Waiting on the matching Williams rear sight and a Lyman Globe on order at a local gun shop to give it real sights over the blade and basic peep.

My father decided to buy the kids a Vortex Crossfire Red Dot for Christmas. Regrettably the one screw stripped while tightening it to 15inlb. BUT... Vortex's turnaround time to replace it was less than a week. All mounted and bore sighted now.

Sounds like a great setup mate. I’m a little old fashioned in that I believe in teaching youngsters to shoot using the open sights first before moving onto optics. That way they learn the sequence of firing a shot, a steady hold whilst aligning the sights and trigger control. It’s not a biggie, but then they don’t learn to rely on electronics or optics.

Time to get out onto a range mate and get that red dot zeroed for them.

If that optic is as high as it looks, I would be concerned about the kids having to have their heads in an artificially high position lacking in 'cheek weld'. Nice that you are working with them, and good for you, but that height is of real concern to me for their learning process.

I was thinking of putting on a pistol red dot on it. Eventually for a lower sight picture. But my father beat me to it.

Only problem with a pistol Red Dot is the “dot” will often be around a 4 MOA dot which is quite big and will obscure a smaller target beyond 50 yards…otherwise, a good idea mate.

I have a Tasco Red Dot sight that was given to me some years ago by a very good lady Bianchi Cup shooter. I planned on putting it on my Win Mod 94 lever gun, but found the dot was a bit big for anything beyond 50m.
