.270 factory ammunition

Anyone got any?
If so & you have callipers to do the measuring, I'd like to know the make, bullet weight/type & OAL.
If you have a Hornady OAL Gauge, measurements from that as well would be even better.

what on earth for old bean????? I havent used factory rounds for years so are of no help at all. Slimjim MIGHT have some handy but he such a tootooing reloader theve probably been reverse engineered by now.
I do KNOW norma rounds will fit a short throated rifle better than nearly anything else.....they LOOK like the projectiles are smaller for weight than any other. PMC was the opposite.

Just that matey - the new .270 is roughly 0.050 under SAAMI dimension for OAL & I want to make sure factory stuff will fit in case I'm somewhere (yes, they do exist) where I can't use my own ammunition, or it gets lost in transit.

I have some around here somewhere leftover from breaking in the barrel on my wife's Savage. That's pretty much my only use for factory ammo anymore. I'll get some measuremnts and photos if you want 'em, but the ammo is Winchester and I had several that never fired, so unless the chamber is out of spec, the ammo probably is. I've heard that some Savage rifles can be finicky about ammo used in them, but have never had an issue with any of my handloads.

I'll take that as a compliment. I have some old, old Fed...... I'm not sure what it is or where it is. It was 150 grain bullet that I don't know if they even sell anymore.

Can't you take your Hornady gauge/tool and measure a few rounds at your LGS ... or doesn't it work that way across the pond.

I am afraid I can't be of much help Mike but MOST factory cases are short of the SAAMI or ANSI maximum which is about .001" shorter than the minimum SAAMI or ANSI chamber. Bullets are also seated short so they will chamber in most "off the shelf" guns. Their goal is to sell ammo and they can only do that if it fits in the guns.
I just resized some new 7mm Mauser brass to 257 Roberts and measured the outside diameter of the case neck with a bullet seated in case I would have to neck turn because of thick necks. Even after squeezing the neck from .284" down to .257" they were still under the maximum diameter and well under the minimum chamber diameter. They fed into my rifle with no problem.

Unless your gun has a very tight chamber I would expect any off the shelf ammo would fit and fire.

English Mike, I shoot Barnes 129 LRX. I run those at max mag length in my Tikka and they still do not touch the lands. I'm with Paul, I don't think you are going to have an issue.

What bullets are you loading now and what are you COALs to touch the lands. Or better yet, what insert are you using on the Hornady tool and the measured distance to the ogive. If you can't measure at the local gun shop, maybe I can next time I'm there.

Norma......cup n core 130grn loads.....job done ,no mess,no fuss,no bother and available almost anywhere.
old mate had a mauser of some sort...possibly a midland??? many many years ago and norma was the ONLY factory round that would chamber without crunching projectiles into rifling.

My LGS is my old shop - sold it to a mate.
Unfortunately, he's only recently got his RFD & his first ammunition order came in without any .270 off his list - out of stock. All too common in the UK, as pretty much all centrefire ammunition is imported these days.

Gimme the measurements if you can - so far I've had about 8 responses here & elsewhere & it's all been GTG.

English Mike, I only have one factory load. My two handloads appear to be shorter ogives than yours. My handloads are max mag length. I'm not sure you have a problem. Am I reading this right?

That looks about right matey, as both the GMX & LRX appear to have a larger radius ogive than "traditional" bullets like the Sierras I'm loading, thus giving a greater difference between OAL & base to ogive using the gauge.
Note I'm not loading my ammunition out to the lengths I gave, as I'd not have a calibre of bullet seated in the neck!
My main concern was the possibility of factory ammunition jamming the bullet into the lands when loaded due to the short leade but this doesn't appear to be the case with any figures I've been given so far, both here & elsewhere.

yep, your freebore/leade looks to be longer than mine. I also found the 7-28 insert worked better on the .277 bullets and would give a more consistent measurement to the ogive.
