I had it all planned out. Pictures, video and report on shooting my new .458 SOCOM AR. Then Thursday there was something screwy with my left eye. Friday they determined it was a partial retina detachment, and retinal tears in both eyes. Seems to be age related. Saturday was surgery on both eyes (cutting on left and laser on right). The right eye should be OK in a week or so. The left will be at least six weeks. I might have a long "vacation" here as I'm not sure my employer will allow me to return to work without two good eyes. I don't really want to drive with just one good eye either.

They say that the current condition/treatment will cause a cataract and require surgery in 6 to 12 months. I had thought about retiring at the end of the year but I'll have to keep working now (if I can) for the insurance.

So no shooting for at least a few months, at least the bigger bores. Maybe rimfires in a couple months. I believe I still have my daughter's Daisy Avanti 753 around here someplace too. I haven't been fishing for a while...

fishing is good....you look after yourself and LISTEN to what the doc says.......driving or indeed doing anything with single eye becomes challenging as distance perseption is all up the crapper.

Damn, that’s a bugger Punkin. A detached retina is not uncommon amongst shooters, and it usually puts paid to their shooting heavier calibres...even as small as .308 Win. Take it easy mate...we only have two eyes and they can’t be replaced. Shooting lighter calibres (rimfires) shouldn’t present a problem, but be guided by what your Dr says. Subsonic .22 is usually very accurate, presents challenges and is a lot of fun...not to mention cheap.
