Hey Guys and Ladies,

Just wondering if anyone here has gone through by pass surgery and what their experience, outcome, and recommendations are.

Not myself mate, but had a couple of friends that went through it some years ago. They came out great and a lot healthier. Medical advances since that time have come a long way as well.

If you have to have bypass surgery mate, I hope all goes better than you hope.

Haven't had it myself, but for my Father-in-law and several friends, it proved to be a life saver.

I myself have a stent. Good friend of the family had quad bypass and was back to work the next week (he owned his own company so he didnt need to do anything strenuous). Its pretty amazing what they can do now.

I'm trying to avoid telling you anything I simply asked a question where I believed I could get an honest answer. But it appears that nobody has had it so I need to look elsewhere for answers. Thanks guys.

OK, so after several weeks of severe chest pain and seeing way too many doctors, they determined that I need a triple bypass open heart surgery.

But, here's the funny part of all this. No blockage anywhere else, such as my corated arteries, lungs, breathing, and oxygen transfer tested great (after 40 years of smoking). Blood pressure low to normal, pulse 63 bpm, cholesterol low.

Yet, when they want me to believe that I need this surgery they show me a line drawing of a heart where someone has colored in the blockages, I say show me the real picture, I was in kindergarten 60 years ago and I don't need coloring books anymore. They say the blockages are not large but in places where stints won't work.

So, I haven't had a cigarette since last Sunday, but I am disinclined to allow any son of a bi--h who cannot show me a real result instead of a drawing to crack open my chest.

So, there it is. They say I need it I say I don't. It just don't seem right to go from absolutely no problem to being filleted by someone standing to make a shitload of money for cutting me open.

I'm with Bushy...get a second opinion Lester...from someone who can show you proof of the problem mate. But don't leave it too long in case the problem is very real mate.

They can do a Kat scan with die to show the blockage. Its a 3-D xray using a die that highlights the blood vessels. It is expensive but it would show whether or not it was necessary.

I agree on the second opinion and the proof you can see.

Just get things checked well to be sure. Mom (95 years old) never showed any problems or indications of trouble until she had a heart attack a couple weeks ago. She's doing OK now but it was pretty scary.

As for the bypass... I've never had one but a number of friends have. All said that it was instant relief, which makes sense.

Get a second opinion Les. My dad had open heart surgery 5 years ago. They did 7 bypasses on him. He trusted his doctor and his doctor also said to him to get a second opinion.
