I agree with RePete...straight to the saleyards...or a private butchering facility where they can be quickly broken down into saleable pieces.

There is a few problems with "rustlers" out here, but mainly cattle. When these mongrels hit, they will take hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of livestock in one night. Cattle stations are so big in our north that the rustlers go in a couple of days beforehand and muster what they can carry and then drive four or five road train trucks onto the more remote parts of the property and pickup the ready mustered cattle. When sheep are taken, it is usually only one or two, taken by people who want the meat for the freezer.

I know of a couple of occasions where Police have got a few of these thieving huas, a recent case in Hastings 4 Blokes and I think 5 ewes in a car - Can't remember what their excuse was but I'm sure it wasn't a date!

If I remember rightly they did some search warrants at these guys houses and found that one of them was running an illegal slaughter / butchery (you gotta have licenses and Health Dept certification here in NZ) They were stealing up to 10 animals a night from around the Hawkes Bay and selling the meat to order.
