You may be quite right, Blommie. I have no doubt that they evaluate the said door before ramming it...

Gidday Bushie, I believe also that the Police have special door busting rounds for the 12g shotgun, as well as 50lb "master keys" Very Happy .

I have used the special purpose "breaching round" before. It is loaded with lead powder. Does nothing from a few feet away, but put it a few inches from the hinges or latch plate on a door, and it disintegrates the door in that area. No worry about ricochets.

?? Why would someone want to shoot a lock?

Once in awhile we encounter an overly active rancher that will block public right of way or access to National Forest by locking a gate. Here, bolt cutters (big bolt cutters) work fine. And, they are quiet.

Exactly, and you don't get hit by a rik.......... riky...........rico.......... ricochet.......... especially a jacketed bullet!!!!!!!! Sniper

I wonder about the non-laminated padlocks.
Looked at some of those cheapy laminated ones. Some held together.
My uncle used to change the tumblers on those laminated ones.
Sure had some long rivets to put them back together.
He was a locksmith for some 50 years.

I have shot locks before, shooting them straight on is not very effective.
shooting any metal at close range would probley not be a very good thing to do anyways.
I have to agree with what was said about a hammer. a good bashing with a hammer from the top, will almost open every lock with a few hits if not one good hit.

if all I had was a gun to shoot one off. I would hope it would be a shot gun using a slug. a good heavy load with a slug can realy mess something up.
