Man .22 rimfire ammunition is impossible to find in stores across my entire state. People that have a personal stock are asking $30-45 per 500 count boxes. That is just insane!

Luckily I have around 2000 but its absolutely crazy to me that you cant walk into a store and buy even a 50 count pack of .22lr ammo.

Is it this way in your states?

All ammo except for .22short and some .22 mag is gone now... even most shotgun shells.

People around here fear a new bullet tax, or even the idea of background checks to purchase ammo is being mentioned in the news. People are stocking up making it terribly hard on new shooters (I've heard several people buy new .22's for their kids who are passing hunters safety, only to find they cant buy ammo for the gun.

I visited two gun shops last Saturday. They did not have a single round of .22 l.r. ammo. Some of us saw this coming and stocked up when the getting was good. All the best...

I have enough to "weather the storm" in the near future, although as I gave my 12 year old a new .22 for Christmas, I expect our yearly use to increase quite a bit Very Happy

Once the panic dies down, I will make a bulk order of a few things so I dont have to worry about it in the future.

$30 to $45 for 500 rds!!!????
Really Dallan you guys dont know how good you got it.

Try $66 + for 500 rds for hunting type ammo, and thats manufactured in OZ some of the imported target stuff goes up to $50 for 50 rds.

There is very little on the shelves at local gun shops in my area. Powder, and bullets are still available, but the choices are limited.

Wow I guess so. It used to be around $16 for a 550 pack of copper plated hollow points. I'm thinking when stores can restock, it will be in the $20 range for a 550 bulk pack.

Recently here in NC I can't find any .22 either. I visited two gun shops last Friday and both were out. One still had a decent selection of guns but the other was pretty bare.

I just went to a local store to pick up some H110 - all they had was three pounds of WW 296. I picked up one and I am going to try to find someplace on-line to order an 8 pound keg of H110, H4895, H414, H335 and a four pound tub of TiteGroup. Before I order I will inventory my primers and bullets too. That way I can have the primers and powder shipped in one box and only pay the HazMat fee once.
If I got a business license I could buy it direct from Hodgdon.

I received the following in an email from jeh7mmmag:

This is some emails from a friend that works for Cabella's in Allen.. There is no ammo left anywhere in the metro plex. Bare shelves

Afraid you are correct. We started yesterday putting out ammo and Pmags in 3 batches a day when we get a truck in. It was brought to the stores attention that by stocking items over night only the ones that show up at opening time were the ones getting those items. So we are now stocking at 3 times during the day to spread it around to more people.

___________________________________________________________________________________
With ammo in the cart the 223 Black Hills 50 round boxes, only had 3 never made it to the shelf. but at least it was 3 different people that got them. There were horders/resalers showing up hours before the store opened to grab what they can. Had 90 people at the door one morning almost like it was black friday or something.

___________________________________________________________________
70 ARs lasted less about 30 minutes one morning. Got in 8 cases of Federal Ameriian Eagle 223 last night, 16000 small pistol primers and 100lbs of 10 different hodgdon powders yestersday afternoon late. those were stocked on the shelves last night. All gone now!

______________________________________________________________
The Fort Worth store got 100 ARs in that same week and sold them before 12:30. Do not have enough bolt actions to fill their normal spots on the shelves or 22s. Pistol cases are less than half full and that is with taking out the 2 racks in front of the counter that would hold about 100 long guns each. Scopes about half the normal amount in stock now and cannot keep eptechs or acogs on the shelf.

This is the largest buying craze I have ever seen. :ots of people buying guns that have never owned one before. Cannot keep safes in stock either.

The week before Christmas the store did over 3 million dollars in sales and a huge portion of that was guns.

Says it all. I disagree very strongly with those buyers who are actually resellers...definitely not fair to the rest of the shooters. I know what I would do to them.

I saw this thing coming last Spring.
Made sure that money I got from reloading, I used to buy components etc.
Also made sure that I have plenty of .22s.
Picked up a couple thousand rounds of .22s last week that was lurking in my local Gander Mountain. Two one thousand round boxes of Winchester M-22s.
$54.00 per box, but worth it. Also got the last pound of IMR 4227 that I use for my .41mag.

I'm set for a long, long time.

Eric

It could take more than a year to recover from this frenzy.
