#184: Re: It's almost Time Author: wiersy111, Location: Central MinnesotaPosted: Sun Sep 29, 2013 8:02 pm ---- Pretty rough weekend. Hunter Friday morning before work and ended up shearing a key on the drive shaft of the outboard. Still ended up smacking a couple birds. After work worked on the outboard until 12:30 am to get it put back together. Hit the landing again at 4:00am and the shift linkage didn't get put back together correctly so no motor again. Stepped out of the boat and found a hole that was waist deep, I only had hip waders on. That was one hell of a wake up call. My son sheared the prop pin as we were trying to leave the landing. After all of that we still decided to paddle out and go hunting. Somehow in the 250 yards I managed to lose my push pole. We set up the decoys and of course one bag of decoys was tangled to the point that I almost started cutting lines. The weather was off and on rain but I knew That was coming but still got even wetter than I was. My son got a couple of shots off but nothing for me, but I was not going through all of that just to go home without firing a shot so I poked at a nice mallard that was pushing the range pretty far.Didn't hit the water until late morning today but still ended up with some birds. During the slow times I shot some coots for the dogs to get some work in. The puppies are doing great thus far but they still have a long way to go to live up to my old black lab Sadie. It was a nice sunny day so the dogs and I all took a nap in the boat for a while, there is nothing like a good power nap out in the fresh air.

#186: Re: It's almost Time Author: Suzanne, Location: Eugene, OregonPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 7:05 am ---- That's why I don't duck hunt...lovely photos though! That just sounded like misery to me, so many things gone wrong, but when your hunting it all just melts away and blends into a great day outdoors. Quite the rig you've got there.
#187: Re: It's almost Time Author: wiersy111, Location: Central MinnesotaPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 7:18 pm ---- Well finally found the true source of my outboard troubles. I ended up chewing the shifter cradle to bits. Now I have to actually by parts to fix it. But it was a good day busted a couple more woodies and a teal. We saw a bunch more woodies but they didn't cooperate. Some geese teased us just outside of reasonable range for a while.

#189: Re: It's almost Time Author: Pumpkinslinger, Location: NC foothillsPosted: Tue Oct 01, 2013 4:46 pm ---- I was told long ago that "BOAT" was an acronym for "Break Out Another Thousand ($)"...

"a hole in the water in which money must be dumped"
The bigger the boat the bigger the hole. Luckily my canoe doesn't make much of a hole.
