#112: Re: O K guys...What is it? Author: Vince, Location: Brisbane AUSTRALIAPosted: Wed Jun 16, 2010 10:56 pm ---- Nice lookin' green tree snake Bushy...we got plenty of them around here too...and boy are they fast.
Zeus is lookin' good mate...although for 3 yrs old, I thought he might be bigger and have filled out a bit...he'll get there no doubt. Have you thrown a leg over him yet mate?
That muttley looks like butter, table legs and lounges wouldn't melt in his mouth...I bet it is otherwise though mate. If he starts chewin' the furniture it is usually an indication that he's bored. Get the little bugger outside and run the arse off'n him...that way, he'll be too tired to chew everything. Also, get him a big KONG and put nibbles in it for him...keep him occupied.
Cheers, Vince

He got a new fan yesterday for his fan club...

Author: Suzanne, Location: Eugene, OregonPosted: Thu Jun 17, 2010 5:57 am ---- Bushy one word NYLA-BONE .....ok more words...teething I suppose, or like Vinnny says boredom. Yeah I wanna know also, how easy was the saddle and bit? I saw an old Mexican cowboy putting a saddle on a broke horse once when I was a kid and he was having another guy bend the horse's ear down to make him pay no attention and that didn't work so then the guy put the horse's ear in his mouth and he chewed on it a bit. That worked. The bit was no problem, he just jammed it against the horse's teeth a couple times and he opened his mouth. The horse sure didn't want any part of it but after all was said and done the horse was just fine with it. It was the puttin on that bothered him. So did ya wiggle one of those snakes in his face?

I tied Zeus where the photos show next to the saddle and let him mess with the saddle and pad for a few minutes. Then "sacked" him out with the saddle pad and when he got use to it and figured it wasn't going to hurt him I put it on his back. No problems thus far. The saddle weighs in at 50 lbs. It's made of bull hide and is around 65 years old all hand tooled. Because of its weight I did not "sack" him out with the saddle. Just got him used to it next to him. Then put it on his back and cinched it in. Let him get used to it and walked him around. Then put the head stall, over the halter, on him. The head stall has a curb (grazing) bit. After he got used to having that in his mouth I walked him around and let him have at the grass.
Yup Vince. He is about as tall as he is going to be (around 14 hds). He will get just a bit taller in the next 2 years and has a lot of fillin' out to do. Keep in mind that saddle is a big saddle and he has a lot of growin' to do to fit Cutter's old saddle...
And no I haven't swung a leg over yet. Though I have bounced on the stirrups with no problems.

Mash, alfalfa, lugnes and some workouts and his arse/chest outta blossom nicely.
Them hay burners eat. I can't afford my appetite, much less a growing horse's anymore.
