Anybody besides me a fan of the NEF Handi rifle? I was highly impressed with the accuracey. My first one was in 45-70 caliber If I took my time i could keep 5 rounds in huge hole at 100 yds.

4570lever,
Welcome, drag up a stump and get yourself a cool libation.

There is nothing at all wrong with a Handi Rifle. They are accrate and quite strong. An awful lot of folks around here carry them as a truck gun, stiuck behind the front seat of a PU in a case, just in case....:-)
Best,
Ed

4570lever,
Welcome!
Years ago I owned several Handi rifles, my favorite was a 45/70 Buffalo Classic. A lot of Handi rifles take a bit of tinkering, but that 45/70 shot great from day one. I now have a Marlin in 45/70. I just recently bought a .500 S+W Handi, but haven't shot it yet. I'm still in the process of gathering reloading components. The .500 S+W ammunition is way too costly if you don't reload for it. Heck I have to save up for the components. The cases alone go for $31 for 50.

I have looked at the 45-70 Buffalo Classic many times, I don't know why buy it is very intriguing to me. How is the recoil I guess the reason I haven't bought one is I am afraid it will be a bone crusher.

Welcome aboard. I only have one but I really like it. A heavy barrel .223 with the wood stock.

Gday 4570lever!

I own a buff Classic, and I have been raving about it in the forum.
Yes they perform very well indeed!

===================

@wiersy111

I ensure that I receive manageable recoil by adding a column of lead in the butt stock screw hole, and loading up nice and accurate low velocity load.
The Buff Classic is definitely a great toy to have!

The steel butt plate doesn't soften the recoil too much. When shooting level 2, 35,000PSI 45/70 loads I've actually had the butt plate cut my shoulder. A week later I had it wearing a new Limbsaver pad and the recoil problem was no longer. Now you have me missing that rifle!
Here's a photo of the BC I had after installing the recoil pad, a Leupold 3X scope and cutting the barrel down from 32" to 27". The cartridges are loaded with 400gr. Barnes X bullets.

Welcome aboard 4570lever. I see the guys have organised a stump and a beer so I'll see ya 'round the fire.

Always wanted a 45.70...in a TC Contender pistol...never sorta got around to it.

Great calibre...and if you need any "special" loads...especially those that go *BLOOOMMPH***...Gelan is the man to speak to.

Cheers, Vince

speaking of NEF.............

I'm lookin' for a Topper "TRAP" model.

I cannot find one ANYWHERE (I've called 15 dealers that used to be dealers from NEF's website ETC).

IF you see or hear or know of any shop with one, getta hold me- please.

Hey Stovie, have you tried Wal-Mart? They can order a lot of different models from H&R and NEF.
