#4: Re: If you could only own three rifles Author: d_hoffman, Location: Chillicothe, OhioPosted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:57 am ---- I'm going to somewhat agree with Bushy. Although the calibers would be different I'd want to keep it simple. A good bolt action .22 with a 2.5-7x32 scope for small game. a 7mm Rem Mag with a descent 4-16x40 scope and one of those newer Marlin lever guns in a .450 Marlin. These guns would cover any need I would have from a rifle.
#5: Re: If you could only own three rifles Author: whittling, Location: Texas (home state is Mass)Posted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 1:02 pm ---- A M-1 Garand ,a K98 or Winchester M70 series, and a Ruger 10/22
#6: Re: If you could only own three rifles Author: stovepipe, Location: Pine, Az.Posted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 1:52 pm ---- One of these in .458 Lott (he's local so what the heck...) Always wanted a DG rifle for some reason....and at 160# wet, it should be 'entertaining' to shoot.
Marlin Guide Gun- .45-70, SS. Just drop dead gorgeous, and potent! There's just sumpin' about these straight gripped stocks....
My as issued, battle scarred, Yugoslav made M-59 Carbine. This thing is ugly as sin and its' a GREAT all day shooter. It's all orriginal, un- reconditioned, everything works, even the rr sight leaf still slides up and back and it meters distances spot-on.
I'm not sure why, neither is anyone else cuz no one else likes it, but I just love this old thing....esp when the gong goess *clang!* at 200/300y or some furball gets a taste And when the ammo's gone, ya can get up-close-and-personal with the fold-up sticker...old school like! :

#8: Re: If you could only own three rifles Author: stovepipe, Location: Pine, Az.Posted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 2:30 pm ---- Lucky devil! I've never shot one.
A gent next to me once lit one off and I almost soiled myself.
Said his .470 was even wickeder. I could not imagine freehanding something like that...
Those DG rifles are really something else and, for me, represent the apex-predator of the rifle world. Not to metnion being drop dead gorgeous as a matter of form follwing function.
Looks can kill.

#12: Re: If you could only own three rifles Author: Pumpkinslinger, Location: NC foothillsPosted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 3:21 pm ---- Hmmm!!
Ruger 10/22 would take care of plinking and small game
AR-15 in 5.56 NATO would take care of varmints, two and four legged and even deer in a pinch. Not at all recommending it as a deer rifle.
Marlin 1895 in .45-70 would take care of just about anything you want, with proper handloads.
#13: Re: If you could only own three rifles Author: gelandangan, Location: Sydney AustraliaPosted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 4:06 pm ---- Dont know what particular rifle, never want to think of the horror of only allowed to have three.
However, I would consider 3 types.
A good 22LR - for short distances small game.
A good centerfire (maybe a 45-70) for longer distances.
A good shotgun - for close and fast actions.
Basically those are what I carry whenever I went to a new (unknown) hunting locations.
#14: Re: If you could only own three rifles Author: Hauken, Posted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 6:30 pm ---- 6,5x55 for smal game
