I am sure almost every one knows what kind of gun this is.

I have been thinking about getting one for a long time.
it was a tos up between a savage 10fp or this bushmaster varminter 223.

I think I have decided to go with the bushmaster varminter.

I need some advise and knowledge on the sites to get for it.

I would like to use the BMAS sites front and rear.

I need to know if these sights will work good and if I will run into any problems using them like trying to zero them for sighting in.

these sights and gun can be found on bushmasters web site.

this is the rear site I want to use,
B.M.A.S. AR Flat Top Rear Sight

this is the front sight I would like to use . but I am not sure what one would be the best , this is where I could use some advise.

B.M.A.S. Front Flip Up Sight
or
B.M.A.S. 3 Rail Gas Block and Detachable Front Flip Sight

has any one here used these sights and if so, will the BMAS front flip sight work fine. ? will hold true and steady, or will it wobble around because of being a flip up sight. ?

I know this is probley a dumb question. but if I dont know , and I need to find out.

I have tied doing searches and read tons of stuff on these guns. mostly all very good. just about every one has a scope on this gun. but I like iron sights , and wish to have them on the gun.

I did try doing a search on this sight for bushmaster, lol. but somone here having the user name as bushmaster , I got alot of good results and plenty to look at. lol, actly , I hope bushmaster will have all the right asnwers for me.

Good choice on the gun. It's great at long range shooting & you'll do better with a scope. If You have to have the iron sites, make sure the rear sight appeture is as small as you can get. Smile

The B.M.A.S. flip sights do not wobble. They sight in like all basic AR sights.
But, I'm with george on the scope. The rifle has incredible long range performance potential. Why limit yourself to iron sights.
I also have a V-Match upper. Similar to the varminter but with a 1 in 9 twist chrome lined barrel. Shoots like a laser.

I own a Bushmaster Varminter and have one thing to say, GREAT CHOISE!
Mine will shoot under 1/2" @ 100yds with 40gr V-max bullets loaded over 26.0gr H335 in well prepared Winchester brass, I use them in our clubs egg shoots and have consistently been the only competitor winning with a Semi auto. (The ONLY one shooting a semi auto)
And that trigger.... Shocked

.....man thats a great trigger, you will love it.If not I will take it off your hands for 1/3rd what you paid for It. Very Happy

Thanks guys. this is what I needed to know. very much appriciated.

the rear sight is the regular on that used on most origionals. its a fixed rear sight with windage and elivation adjustments.

it should be low enough to mount a scope with the 1\2" risers that come with the gun.

I know a scope will give the winning edge on the gun for long rang accuracy. and I do plan on getting a good scope for it later. or I can take one off of my other guns if needed , just to get buy for a while.

something about good iron peep sights, I realy like them.
to me a good pair of peep sights make a gun look sharp.
also, I like the idea of just having a good back sight.

if all goes well, I might have this gun by the end of this week.
then with the next paycheck order the peep sights. wow, those little things are expensive. about $220.00.

If you dont mind I would like to recomend a great scope as well, Its called the Super Sniper from SWFA they are great scopes and would go well with your new Varminter. Just type riflescopes.com into a search engine and you will get there.

Say ripper007, a scope is cheaper. I know iron sights can be expensive & I too thought about getting some for my Bushmaster, but, as I walked thru Walmart, I saw a scope for $149.00 & that ended my quest for iron sights Very Happy

I bought the gun.
using all the extra money I had saved and some out of my latest paycheck. I hope it was worth it. almost getting buyers remorse. lol.

last night I took the time to take it apart and lost all the pieces to it. just kidding.

I did take it apart ,and did a good cleaning on it. this is what the book sugested to do with a new bushmaster. to get rid of all the excess oil and any debree in the barrel.
its all back to gether and action works and fucntions like it did before I dissasembled it. lol.
I have not shot it yet.
and I would like to get some lighter amo to break it in with.
I bought 100 rounds of 5.56 amo for it. I forgot the exact name of what kind it is. but I do know that it is 55 or 56 grain. with about 3200 fps full metal jacket pointed. no holo point, and no lead tip. the tip is not painted.
I konw this round has been replaced with a newer bullet of the same kind that I think has a red painted tip. I am not sure about this, till I go back home to check the specks fo the bullets.
so I bought some empty 223 cases, and I have some MRI 3031 powder with 50 grain bullets # 2245 sp hornady bullets.
only problem is the store I was at was out of the primers I needed for this . lol. thats my luck.
anyway.
now,
I am realy flat broke, no money.
and trying to be very considerate of using any credit cards.
and I know every one will probley frown and start scoldign me for doing this, while I was at wallmart, I ended up buying a bushnell sportsman 4-12x40 scope.

for some reason wallmart on line store dose not have this scope on thier web site yet ?
and I will probley regret doing this and I know every one here tried to tell me to spend a little more to get a good scope.
with the funds I have left, $79.00 for this scope did not seem too bad.
I have a bushnell on my 30-30 marlin ever action, and I can hit 1 inch dot at about 75 yeards easy. and that scope has been doing very well for me.
this new one I bought seems to be a little better with the extrea option of Adjustable Objective (yds).
I guess I will find that out when I am able to get out and shoot it.

I still want to buy the iron sights for it. I realy like peep sights and if I can train my eye again to shoot with peep sights again, I will be confident to be able to hit what ever I need to with iron peep sights.

I also had ordered 2 20 round clips for $ 19.00 apiece last week, they came in the mail the same day I bought the gun.

the gun, to me, actualy looks better in real life than it dose in the the pictures.

next day off from work, I should be able to break this gun in.

any sugestions or comments would be appriciated.

also, any comments on breaking the gun in will be appriciated too. I just plan on going out and shooting about 5 to 10 rounds threw it. take it apart , clean it a few times. shoot another 5 to 10 ruonds , and clean it again. repeating this about 3 times or more should be good ?

some where I read that motor oil 10w-30w is what some are using to oil the insides of the gun.
what do you guys suggest.

If you are low on money make your own gun oil:
Take 50/50 Dextron Automatic Transmission Oil / kerosine.
If you get a quart of each it will last you a lifetime, or you can sell it to your friends at $1 for a four once bottle. That way you can make a profit.
DON'T use engine oil in your gun. Engine oil will react with atmospheric water and make clay, and most motor oils have quantities of metal in it to add to the lubrication properties under heat and pressure.
Your gun will never get hot enough or see the pressure where the oil is, to make it work. In your gun it just causes problems.

There should be a barrel breakin instruction sheet in the box with the gun.
If not, call Bushmaster, proper barrel breakin is important to squeeze all the accuracy out of this gun.

I figured if I clean it every 5 to 10 rounds , it should be safe. ?

I'd be worried about that part. JB Bore cleaner can really mess up a barrel. I wouldnt touch the stuff myself. Smile

I do belive some custom barrel manufactures even state that if you use JB or other similar compounds you will void the warrentee. I know MacMillan used to say that back before Gale passed away. Smile

I have used it and still do, Its the person behind the rod that ruins barrels, not JB! Some folk mistakenly use JB bore polish and not cleaner, that will mess things up a tad.
My Bushy Varminter has had JB used in it and still shoots sub MOA @ 100yds. Smile

Alot of the problem people have with guns is the screw loose behind the trigger. Very Happy

I bought some Hopps oil to use for oil.

and for the solvent for cleaning, I think it is hopps too. ?

and I may be spelling that wrong. lol.

I did shoot it today. 5 rounds.

at about 40 yards I shot a couple of rounds to see were the new scope was at. remember , I just put this scope on right out of the box. no adjustments made yet. lol.

it was shooting for horizonal, about dead on.
for elevation, it was shooting a little to the right.

about 8 clicks to the left, now its about virticaly center. or close.

the next two shots was from about 120 yards. first shot was a little to the right , the next one was straight up and down , just a little high.

I was not using any rest, just in the pron position resting my left elbo on left knee. well, guess that was my rest I was using. lol.

I normaly sight a gun in resting the gun on a bench so it will be dead on and not moving .

being in a hurry is not the best way to do sight anything in. but I was in a hurry to get to work, and did not have much time. for a quicky, I think that was pretty good so far.

I was a little amazed at just how close the scope was on for just mounting it on the gun right out of the box. most of the time, I have to do alot of adjusting just to start hitting the target box. or just shoot at the dirt to see where the dirt flies up. then I know where to move the hairs . till it gets close then start sighting it in on the targets. the poor mans way of doing it with out a boar lazzer.

I do thank you guys alot for posting commetns to help me out on this.

this is one of the best gun forums I have found, a great group of guys.
