Looks like the "Big Beautiful Bill" has passed. It includes the removal of the $200 NFA tax on suppressors and "short barreled" weapons, but appears to leave the additional background checks and registration in place. I think the change takes effect 90 days after signing.

Sounds interesting Punkin. What’s the general feeling amongst the people mate? Of course the ANTIs will be totally opposed and will jump up and down making noises, but does the Bill have the support of the people?

Oh I know tons of people sitting on alot of $$$ ready to buy suppressors when this is signed. I expect a dramatic drop in prices as lots of MFGs jump into the market. For all intents and purposes, Suppressors are a simple design, most pieces can be stamped with little machining.

Now SBR's... oh yea, I fully plan to buy a SBR in 45acp or 9mm for home defense. Easier to wield than a long gun, virtually no recoil with pistol calibers.

Vince, all the gun folks I know seem pretty happy about it! The whole bill is HUGE, lots of different things mixed into it. Taxes, health care, etc. 800+ pages. Polls show that the people are not in favor of it, but I honestly think they just don't understand what's in it. According the leftist media it will result in the end of all life in the galaxy...

I've been told by someone who is fairly knowledgeable about it that the NFA can't stand without the tax part. If so, I foresee some SBRs and SBSs in my near future.

Dallan, my CZ Scorpion carbine (16") will become an SBR pretty quickly.

Thank god that dumbass Mike Lee from my state dropped his selling public lands rider. I would have voted democrat next election to get rid of him. He pissed off virtually all his base with that move.

I strongly doubt he will be around next term, even the hardcore "R"'s are sick of him.

SBR and SBS? I’m confused Scratch I’m thinking SBR = Short Barrelled Rifle, but SBS has me stumped.

Which ever way, I think that this new Bill could be a double edged sword in some respects. I think it will open up a huge ‘market’ for thieves Mad , exacerbated by those people who aren’t overly security conscious and won’t necessarily secure their new acquisitions appropriately. wtf Then there are the ‘legal’ people who will conspire with criminals to purchase firearms and accessories on their behalf. Mad :-x. There’s always that person or persons that sees a way to make money or win ‘street cred’.

I cant bear the thought of machining threads onto the end of any of my beautiful hunting rifles to support a "can". Also, some of my hunting rifles already have 26" barrels and adding a can onto that... way too long to be practical for a hunting rifle.

Definitely will get one for 22lr and one for a AR15. Probably look into some multi-cal cans to cover more bases.

Vince, SBS - Short Barreled Shotgun, i.e. less than 18" barrel or less than 26" overall.

By the way, we also have "AOW", Any Other Weapon. From the ATF website:
"For the purposes of the National Firearms Act, the term “Any Other Weapon” means:

Any weapon or device capable of being concealed on the person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive;

A pistol or revolver having a barrel with a smooth bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell;

Weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12 inches or more, less than 18 inches in length, from which only a single discharge can be made from either barrel without manual reloading; and

Any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire.

Such term shall not include a pistol or a revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons designed, made, or intended to be fired from the shoulder and not capable of firing fixed ammunition."

My Mossberg Shockwave is an AOW.

As far as your other concerns, nothing is changed by this bill. Safe storage laws aren't affected. "Straw man" purchases are already illegal. Sales to "prohibited" people (felons and such) are already illegal.

Taurus judge....one of them funny ones I believe...a .410 six shooter. Oh boy they would be a LOT of fun. Dallan,over barrel suppressors differ in size, 8" back and 4" forward is common size here. The 4" forward bit doesn't change much between brands,the bigger chamber at rear helps traps gas very well. I have excellent muzzle forward made by DPT on my 222. It's awesome light n quiet but looks silly on my longer 223 even though it sticks out front no more,the longer one back over barrel close to stock looks far better. My hearing loves them. Two newer rifles off to be threaded tomorrow.
