Well, I have a “honey-do” list hanging over my head at the moment. I had plans of bedding the stock on my Stevens 308, adding a little weight to it and slipping off to buy and fit a decent recoil pad…the factory one is useless and serves to only cover up the hollow rear of the buttstock…then off to the range to test it all.

But of course, things come up and get in the way of the well laid plans of mice and men. Christmas is only a month away and we have an informal light display in our street (of which we are a part), so the next week, or thereabouts, will be taken up with preparing (testing lights) and erecting said lights. We don’t go overboard like some, but put up enough to be a part of the street display, make kids happy and make the parents ohh and ahh. Sooo, a trip to Bunnings is on the cards to purchase more solar powered lights (we seem to buy them every year now Scratch

) for where I can’t get power to any lights. Then comes the “fun and enjoyment” of erecting them…oh happy happy joy joy. I used to enjoy putting the Christmas lights up, but as I get older and the joints get stiffer, the pleasure is seriously waning.

I have to revisit the gate(s) my grandson and I built (cutting one big gate in half to make it two) and weld over all the “tack welds” we used to hold everything together…weather permitting…I ain’t gonna weld in the rain, Shocked

no way, nah, nuh uh, nope, not a chance Razz

There is also a fence I need to plan and erect…it will be a pool type fence so it will come in panels. However, I will need to hire a post hole digger (digging the holes by hand like last time is a “no go” for me with my crook back) to dig the holes for the posts, then I will concrete them in place. This all takes time (for the cement to harden) and to then erect the panels, (easy, if I’ve measured correctly and accurately), then screw the connectors in place to hold the panels (thank goodness for Tech Screws and a cordless drill)…again, all time.

So, if I’m lucky, I will get to visit the stock for my 308 before Christmas…maybe Sad

I may even get a chance to go fishing one day, although I seriously doubt it, and a few days hunting is well and truly off the cards, a no go. Confused

I wish I had the money to buy a Boyd stock (between AUD$450 and AUD$550 if available) or similar (a Bell and Carlson stock is AUD$790)…would solve all of my problems.

you completed that list yet mate??? I know herindoors will have added more to it by now,but did you complete this part of it lol

Yep, got it all done, although I may have to revisit the gate we cut in two…it’s not heavy, but seems to “pull” the post over a little to which it’s attached. I think the guy that built the original fence skimped on concrete to set the post. I’ll put a wheel that I have on the gate and hopefully that will hold everything up. The other alternative is to pul the post and reconcrete it in more sturdy…a mongrel of a job.

The side fence is all built and right now, and it looks amazing. We eventually got a fencing contractor to do it for us, mainly because it worked out cheaper, quicker and easier.

I’m still thinking about a custom stock for my 308, but the cost is prohibitive. The rifle is shooting near enough MOA at 100 yards now, so maybe I’m chasing more accuracy than I actually need. A cloverleaf pattern would be nice, but in reality, all I need is Minute of Critter, so I think I’ll concentrate on the load and leave it at that.

No time to go hunting or fishing, I am doing the “night shift” with my 98 yr old MIL. I try to rest in my recliner and wait for her to call me, on the alarm I bought, to get her out of bed so she can go to the loo and then get her back into the bed. This happens every 1/2 hour to an hour…I’m knackered. I won’t go hunting on my own anyway, so I’ll have to get my grandson to come with me…if he has the time.

Luckily, the honey-do list hasn’t been added to, so I’m on top of that now.

well good on you mate...your kids and grandkids will see what you are doing for the MIL and hopefully be around to do the same for you....when time comes and YOU need looking after.

Thanks mate…it’s something that just has to be done, especially when you consider what Mum’s did for us as kids. Three and a half weeks spending nights in a recliner has bought out aches and pains though.
