Peanuts ARE a bean. They are NOT true nuts.
Nuts grow above ground, usually on a tree while Peanuts and other like beans grow in the ground.

Yes but peanuts are a member of the legume plants. True nuts grow on trees and shrubs. Hazel nuts grow on shrubs while walnuts grow on trees. The nut, a single seed in a pod or shell, matures above the ground.
Peanuts form in the fertilized bud of a low growing plant and matures in the ground like some other legumes. The peanut has one to four seeds to a pod with two being the average.
