Don't listen to them, the glasses are fine. I wear similar ones, that I can clip on Aviator style sun glasses to. And I wasn't even even alive for most of the 80's never mind 60's.

Oh, I couldn't care less about what style glasses I wear now, all I want to do is see. But for the Civil War stuff I want to look as authentic as possible.

I wear size 60 glasses frame everyday.
It is getting difficult to find them nowadays, where every glasses store would only stock tiny little frame glasses.
I use large frame because they are both my eyesight correction glasses and safety glasses for work or shooting.
Besides, it gives you a greater field of view.
