How could anyone forget Mortie and his 275# wife. He was on another forum that I follow and got kicked off. It would be interesting to know what happened to good old Mortie.
Yes I did go by Bis, but the software here requires 4 letters, therefore it is Kbis.

BigBlue- Did you use the same handle on the H&R forum?. It sounded familiar, but there are a lot of people out there with the same handles.

kBis,
After I thought about your current handle, I did remember you posting there under the name of Bis. I printed out some of the material from the old site after they went down. They stayed up for a while to allow those that wanted to, to retrieve some info. I may even have some of your old posts printed out.
Old Mortie showed up at several sites after H+R/NEF Talk. I know of at least three that he was given the boot from. Marlin Owners even tried to calm him down by giving him his own forum, that didn't work either.
Good hearing from you again! Wave

Yes I did. Luckily I had one that was long enough. Very Happy

By the way Big Blue welcome to the forum. It is a lot more kicked back and friendly than some you have mentioned.

Ken,
Thanks for the welcome.
I remember just before H+R/NEF Talk banged up, Montanan had just talked me into the Buffalo Classic. I'm glad they stayed up long enough for that. I still have that rifle and the Ultra Varmint which was my first. I still see a few of the old crew, but of course not all. It's the same with the old Marlin Talk. It's amazing how many friends you make at these forums. Friends you've never met, but friends all the same.

Big Blue,
Thanks for answering back. Smile
I learned something, not realizing NEF’s came in three different barrel weights I assumed you were talking about the short sporter vs. bull barrel. Confused
As far as the frame change it doesn’t really matter when it took place, lots of history and changes have been made over several decades. What really counts, as you stated: “I know your limited, if you have the SB1! frame, as to what caliber barrels they will install in their accessory barrel program.” Cool

Stepping off topic, for a second here:
Montanan? Buffalo Classic?
Is this by chance the same guy… Montana Rifleman
If so, I met him on the now defunct “Shooters Talk“ board many moons ago. He is very up on the Buffalo Classics, beautiful firearms. I may have talked to you all on NEF Talk also, I started posting there right before they went down.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Montanan may have also gone by Montana Rifelman. It sure sounds like him. He was very much into BPCR shooting. Last I heard of him there was some talk of rechambering a Buffalo Classic to 45/120. That became a trend for some on Greybeards.
Is it just possible that you were known simply as Yotehunter back then? Or something close to that? That seems to ring a bell with me. Again there are a lot of variations on that name at different forums.

Yep... your right, Don. I went by coyotehunter, had to add the _1 later to avoid confusion. Laughing

How did the conversions of 45/70 to 45/120 work out? It seemed a little risky to me. The bullet may fit, but will the barrel and action handle the added pressure?

Ken,
The BC or Handi in 45/70 are rated for level two loads the same as the 1895 Marlin or Winchester 1886. I don't have my reloading manuals in the house, but I think the 45/120 Sharps loads are in the same pressure catagory. With both being 45 caliber the thrust should remain the same. Both started life as black powder cartridges, but with it's larger case capacity I would imagine the 45/120 is somewhat limited in it's choices of smokeless powders to keep those pressure levels down.

Howdy ya'll

only had experience with one handi rifle in .223 rem. Dad used it coyote hunting for years. was more than reasoneably accurate!! had trouble with the locking mechanism. had to shut i hard enough that the scope mounts would come loose after a while. Other than that some of the best money spent. Used to have a NEF sportster in .17HMR. With CCI ammuniton would shoot right at 1 MOA. right out of the box. also had the smoothest trigger i have ever felt right out of the factory. Killed many a groundhog. The sportster would lock real easy too. you could close it as slow as you like. when it clicked it was locked. I think it has a 32x target scope on it now lol.

I have heard good and bad ,but the one I have will drive tacks,,Its in a .223 and shoots under 1/2 inch all day how can you get better than that , the extra barrels are cheap if it falls out of my truck I dont have to cry too hard,,I have gone out and abuser the heck out of it shooting many rounds without cleaning , cleans up well without pukeing up green for a month. one screw will break the gun in half which is nice for traveling,,,has a short action which even if it had a 30 inch barrel it will not be too long,,as far as the triggers mine break like glass and feels like 48 ounces and I never worked on them,, I dont judge triggers by a scale ,it is designed to be handy and handy it is,,I wish they offered more 26 inch barrels in stainless in more cal. so far I cannot get accuracy out of the 20 gauge sabot barrel I have and I dont know if its my handloads,,,this gun will even convert to black powder ,,,its not a sako with french walnut,,,but its truly a woodsmans rifle,,,and a great truck gun

I worked in the Sporting Goods Dept. of a Wal*Mart in Maryland after retiring from my regular job just to build up my Soc. Sec. a bit. While there I sold an awful lot of NEF rifles, mostly the heavy barreled varmint rifles. Many who bought one came back for a second one. They were quite popular and shot quite accuratey with the heavy barrel. My only gripe was the weight. Good gried but they were heavy. I'd hate to lug them around the woodchuck fields. It would tire me out in nothing flat. To each his own I guess. Best wishes.
