Saugus, CA, circa 1965 or (?). Pop and I were bestist buddies. Wabbits, quail, dove, you name it....I'm pretty sure this is my first recorded hunt, might be first pic w/ a firearm. Complete with my own .22, binoc's and canteen. Hehehe. My sis sent me some pics from her storage unit in Montana. Found this one and thought I'd share.
What's in yer closet/shoebox/cookie tin?

Whud a cutie-pie!! That gun looks taller than you! Oh I found this photo...yeah we were having a nice outdoors pow wow out in the desert when the immigration officials decided we needed some help with our underwear. Actually I know some people this happened to (not me) and it was rather scary. Not many of our people carry ID around with them, especially when tryin to get drunk off the reservation. Probably can't find anyone willing to party that close to the Mex. border now either! AAAHHHH what fun was had by all! (again, not me)

I gotta photo of my first deer, well actually its a big ball of fur in the back of a mates ute, can't tell that it was a deer, but hey I was 23 and it was my first deer. I'll try to take a photo of it and then put it online.
As far as me and guns; my grandad was an RSM in the NZ army so I got the full treatment at age 6, even the clip around the ears when I did something stupid - .177 anshutz, he hated the nazi's but loved their weapons.

I noticed the same thing too....
Yepper Slim- she was taller than me. Had to tuck the butt under my pitt to shoot 'er. Was better with my Red Rider and the semi-auto pistol. But, pop would carry it unloaded, hand it over, I'd huck it up under my pitt, he'd load it and I'd plink away! Never dropped it. Man was I careful with it. Ol man put the fear of God into about it.

Don't be! I dont think I ever hit anything living. We'd go "hunting" but usually bead up on rocks, a tree etc. if I reacall correctly.
He humored me, but, the whole concept stuck with me. Guess it's why I've always come back to it after a break, then, realise how strongly it's ingrained in me.
Father, son, a station wagon, fair chase, beans and bacon, camp fire stories, sleepin' under the stars....good stuff.
