Well, they say that shooting skills are perishable and I've proven today that mine are almost dead... What was interesting was that I shot better without my glasses than with them. I was shooting a Ruger Mark II, iron sights, Centurion ammo. Shooting 25 rounds on a B-24 target at 25 yards. W/ glasses: 10 ring x 6, 9 x 12 and 8 x 7 scored 224. W/o glasses: 10 x 12, 9 x 10, 8 x 3 scored 234 points.

Funny I got similar result, higher scores without glasses.

I think it is because clear vision with glasses allow us to be distracted by many things, and over correct the aiming.

Without glasses, we tend to concentrate more on the "nearer" focusable objects such as the FRONT sight.
Thus improve the result.

Gelan, that's it exactly. With my glasses (progressive bifocals) I can see the target clearly but the iron sights can get fuzzy. Without the glasses the sights are clear but the target get pretty fuzzy. But I can tell where the center of the fuzz is!

I have the opposite problem to you Punkin...the sights are fuzzy (can't even see the damn things), but the target is nice and clear. Through the scope with or without glasses it is pretty much the same, so I shoot without glasses.

My right eye has further improved...hopefully will be back as close to normal as possible within a couple of months.

Cheers, Vince

I can see well through a scope without glasses, but sights are a blur. If I wear glasses i'ts the opposite. I'm glad to hear you're eye is gettin' better Vince. Good News for sure!

I have to wear reading glasses to see the iron sights on my pistols any more or use a target shooting aperture on my glasses to diffract the image into focus...

On rifles - If the sight radius is long enough I am OK but 16" barrels on AR's have reall hairy looking front posts.

I have taken to using a small lens in my 20" Target AR iron sights to help focus at the front sight but not totally fuzz out the target at 600 yards. I am test driving a new tool called the Microsight that is a Zone plate diffraction grating that allows the images from two different distances to appear in focus.. pretty cool..

If you combine the fuzzy parts of the first two photos, you'll have an idea of what I see with my outdated eyeglasses. They work fine for fishing, though.
Somehow I still manage to hit the targets, but a scope is definitely an improvement.

Is it me or is the center bullseye look like a diamond?

I have astigmatism on both my eyes, without my glasses, the center bullseye looks like a skewed football (ellipse).

Yep...eye is improving...thanks guys.

Fuzz up the first pic of Marty's a lot more and that is what I "see" of iron sights.

The Microsight appears almost too good to be true...wish it was around when I was shooting pistol...I would probably still be shooting.

Merit adjustable aperture that sticks to my glasses works well for range work with iron sights. So does a piece of dark paper with a pin hole in it. Otherwise the sights are a blurr. Use 1.5x readers from Riteaid for combat work. Rather see the sights crisp than the target.
