This guy shot 15,000 doves in one day with a tag team reloading multiple SX3 shotguns. 18 doves per minute. WOW!!!

Just like shooting buffalo....how many we got now? If that's legal in Mexico then they care about tourist money only, and screw the resources. I would just as soon throw up on someone that thinks that's an accomplishment and proud of himself. He could have tried starlings or some other pesky over-breeding critter worth culling. He took a game bird instead and did it out of the country where his tourist dollar can pay for a more corrupt government. Yeah ...what a guy...I hope he got a bruise

Well, I have just finished watching the video that was put up by Winchester Movies on Jan 25 2011. In fact here is a copy of the blog describing the feat;
Uploaded by Winchestermovies on Jan 25, 2011

The Dovenator (Scott Breeze) heads to Argentina in an attempt to break the record for doves shot in one day. In Argentina the doves are a serious ecological problem, so the stage is set for one of the most amazing, record breaking days in shooting history. All with a Super X3 20 gauge. Two guns. One day. One amazing shooter

In my opinion whomever wrote and posted the description is a liar straight up. When you watch the video, anyone can clearly see that there are at least four shotguns that appear to be of the X3 type. As far as doves being a problem in Argentina, I have heard that this is indeed the case. Going for glory by killing fifteen odd thousand birds in one day? When is that kind of killing enough? Scott Breese is also perported to be a doctor. A few things that I am glad about, one he isn't my family doctor, two I do not shot to that extreme, three I really would like to see his shoulder or whats left of it the day after this shoot (it isn't my shoulder) and finally I live in a country and am a member of a forum that respects everyone's opinion. I am pro hunting but somehow things like this strick me as vulgar.

anyone who want to shoot that much for that long should get a multitarget clay thrower and go for it YEA The doves may well be a pest but Im plurry sure he didnt process and eat even a small percentage of them.so he may as well shoot clay disks.
I bet all you water fowlers would spit tacks seeing a goose cull over here its a necessary evil but Im plurry sure nobody would brag about it as an acheivment. we cant blame the shotguns for being efficent its all on the nut behind the butt,

This is just the kind of thing that gets all them anti-hunters, etc in an uproar. This is an example of what us hunters and shooters don't need.

doves are a plague down south. in argentina there are literally billions of them and they destroy crops and habitat for other species and are disease pits. vids like them is good fodder for antis but...meh, beats poisioning them. the antis will be antis no matter what.

Yes, its a different species of dove that is a huge problem and out of control.

Even here in Utah, we have invasive doves that are going to displace the native mourning dove. Here they are called Eurasian Collared Doves or ECDs. They do NOT migrate and once they arrive at an area, they are impossible to eradicate. In Utah there is no limit on ECDs, no season either, you can kill as many as you want any day out of the year.

The doves in Mexico / Argentina that are so problematic are "whitewing" doves. They are poisoned by the tens of millions so a single hunter shooting a few thousand is nothing.

I didn't know about the ECD's as I thought they were shooting mourning doves. Thanks again for the info Dallan.

Good idea to post some pictures about dove identification.

Mourning Dove, they have a pointed tail in flight:

Eurasion Collared Dove, lacks the pointed tail of a mourning dove in flight, larger body than mourning doves as well:

Whitewing doves:

I think this was at least his second attempt. The author did get the facts of the write-up mixed up. Even the earlier attempts with fewer doves had more than 2 shotguns. Definitely a greuling test for shooter and machine. In some of the videos I watched, the doves in Argentina are so great in numbers they look like locus. They destroy 20% of the nation's crops by one account. It cost more than $4000 in ammo for that day.

I didn't realise there were some many different types of doves...even out here in Australia. And the colours are amazing, especially in the rainforest areas.

Aussie Pigeons and Doves

Rainforest Pigeons and Doves

I have heaps of the Crested Pigeons around my place...they are always in the yard...and I always thought they were doves and called them that.

Cheers, Vince

Doves in Arizona aren't so prolific and that's what I recall is that they were a real treat. Maybe there's not enough water there to keep them around but I don't remember seeing them in crowds either, usually individuals or pairs. I didn't know they were a pest here, it's a shame, they're such elegant and beautiful birds. Excuse my (earlier) harsh words but if you think about it geese used to be clouds in the sky too. Farmers here can't get rid of enough of them to quit ruining the grass seed industry here. There are lots of "local" geese here that don't migrate and have found a ready supply of feed in those fields. We also get swans in very small groups that migrate through. The farmers don't complain about the swans. No season to shoot one either, there are so few here.

Should we go out and shoot all those pesky geese? Just get rid of them? You really have to think about game management and what it means to others along the fly-ways. The most crowded fly-ways are that way because they've learned the safest route or the quickest route or a route that will afford them food and water and rest. If we blast those fly-ways (I know you said the doves weren't migrating) to rid ourselves of pesky migrants then what happens in the food chain?

Don't other animals feed off of those birds? Are those predators important too? Should we force the predators to come into our back yards and take our pets? Seems to me that's been goin on for a quite a while. The sheep farmers here have stalking cats to contend with, coyotes, eagles, sometime soon they'll have wolves too.

Quite a number of states have deer problems. I don't think there are any in the western US, but more in the east. What would happen if they were all wiped out? Who eats those pesky things? We have so decimated the wild animals on this planet, that the dominant species are the left-over pests? When the trees are gone, they look for shelter somewhere. When the prey is gone they look for food somewhere. When there is no predators around, the prey multiply.

It's my duty as a member of Mother Earth's progeny to oversee and make good what I've been entrusted to care for, and that is Our Mother. Would you pull the hair from your Mother's head? I ask Our Mother for what I can use and always thank her for what she has given me. There is no need to waste what you cannot use. How do you ask Our Mother to give you 15,000 doves, for the mere sake of killing them, to rid them of Our Mother? Would you remove your Mother's coat in winter?

Suz
