Out playing with the camera today and thought I would take a few photos of the .243 Remington 700 I had built last year. It is built on the action of a 700 BDL I had. The action was blueprinted and mated to a Krieger #6 contour stainless steel barrel. The barrel was crowned at 24". The smith had difficulty installing a Timney trigger I had supplied so he re-worked the Remington trigger. Boy is it smooth and crisp! The stock is a Boyd laminated thumbhole. The rifle is topped with a Leupold VX-L, 4-10 x 50mm with Leupold standard low rings. It is a sweet shooter. As many of you know, I had the barrel rifled in a 1:12 twist. This is much slower than the 1:9.25 twist found in OTC Remington rifles. However, I shoot the lighter end of the .243 bullet selection and the 1:12 suits this type shooting just fine. It is handling anything 80 grain or less with superb accuracy. I still haven't worked with it enough to settle on one single bullet but plan to do just that soon. The only drawback is that it is H-E-A-V-Y. I haven't weighed it but am sure it exceeds 10 pounds! I shot a buck with it last year and had to use a shooting stick.

Probably should have had the barrel fluted. Probably could use a composite stock too.

While I'm at it Chambered221, here is a photo of the .17 Fireball. Model 7 with fluted barrel and topped with a Master Series 6 x 40 fixed power scope. Throwing in a photo of the Citori my wife gave me for a wedding present.

Okay. That's all the photos I took today. Practicing flash work outside.

Sweet looking rifles TC. That .243 does look nice...I have a composite stock on mine, but I tell ya mate...the laminated stocks are starting to grow on me a little.

Cheers, Vince

What problems did you have with the Timney ?

I suspect he took out the hinge pin by driving it out first rather than driving it out with the Remington pin. I say this cuz when I got it back, the pin was loose in the bag with the trigger. He normally does not take stuff like mine. He builds complete rifles to sell. He only uses Jewel triggers for his builds so I suspect he tried to install the Timney in the same way and it didn't work! Don't know though, I'm no expert, hence the reason HE did it and not ME. Very Happy

What sold me on that stock is that if just feels like no other. You put that thumb hole stock to your shoulder and the sights are already aligned to your eye. Smile Like magic! Surprised

I LOVE free!

BTW, if anybody wants the take-off stock (Remington BDL plastic thing) I'll send it to ya FREE. Just pay postage. It would be good for someone who wants to sell a gun but wants to keep the custom stock they had built. Keep it in mind. It's not going anywhere. Sitting in my hunting closet.

Another BTW. I forgot to mention the action has been pillar bedded and glass bedded. Smith did an EXCELLENT job on that one.

Also forgot to mention the work was done by William Roscoe of Louisiana Precision Rifles, LLC. He is just outside Shreveport, LA.

Hence the reason it took me 45 years to get hitched. Starting around 1980, I swore I would marry the first woman who gave me a "Browning Citori over and under 12 guage shotgun". Don't know how many times I repeated that to various females who wanted "more out of their relationship". Shocked

In 2004 I finally ran up on 'er. All that time, I thought I was safe. Very Happy
