What can we do that hasn't been thought of yet.
The NRA and several other financially sound groups are fighting the good fight, but unless I am mistaken, the current generation seems to be leaning toward the "guntakers" mentality.
They will have to take mine from my cold dead fingers, but some are advocating that very thing.

Well just so you know it , there is wording in the Constitution ( dont ask where as it has been YEARS ago I read it ) , that it is perfectly LEGAL to overthrow the Government , once it reaches a certain stage , and I only have two things to say about it ..
1) the guvmint doesnt want you to know it's in there
2) we aint far from it
But IMO ., and not meaning to sound racist , but there'll probably be a race war , before a guvmint overhtrow attempt ..

Probably right Groovyjack, I am not prejudiced at all, but thats what will start it, and like the Civil War, will be twisted to suit the needs of who ever is winning at the time,"To the victor go the spoil"

Well, our government does cost us too much and we do tend to take on everyone's problems foreign and domestic. But somehow our form of government still manages to creep along at a very slow pace and get things done. I did my time defending the country too and our government still beats the alternative's.
Our biggest form of governmental change is the least used by those who run it down the most. The vote.
Now, if you do vote, you have complaining rights if your guy or item does not get voted in. As long as we govern in the terms of the majority rules and the ballots are counted properly without interference I don't see any group of people taking over our government. Many don't like that idea but our government has been working for a long time. People have been complaining about our government the same way longer than any of us have been around but our government is still here, we are still free, and still complaining.
As for our rights, it is our job to insure that they remain in force. The process is simple and does not require the point of a gun. Communicate and let your elected officials know that you insist on your rights being preserved. That kind of letter, e-mail, or telephone call is under used also.
I wonder how many people in Australia, England, Canada, New York and California have made the "Cold Dead Fingers" statement yet promptly handed firearms over to avoid prosecution. Prison time is a scary proposition. When it gets to that point the time to communicate with the elected officials has past. Read that "Too late and sorry Charlie!" Have you seen the above countries or states in a state of rebellion over gun ownership?
Today, take some time away from the forums and communicate with your elected officials. Tell them in polite but no uncertain terms that you insist that they represent you and that they work diligently to preserve your rights. We have 2000+ members here at HuntingNut and if we landed 2000 letters, e-mails, and calls on our representatives it would have a positive impact. Always ask for a written reply so that you will know your representatives position on the subject of your rights. A negative response letter gives you direction in the voting booth.

Crackshot, I am in the same place. I do vote in each and every election, and I wonder if it does any good at all, especially here in the USS of C. But I look at it like it is the best system out there at this point in time and untill someone comes up with something better, I will take it and deal with it. That being said, I also believe the race wars are coming, (I am sorry to say, becuase it will rip this beatiful country up for a while), I also have to believe that this country will survive and thrive afterwards. All I can do is live the best life I can, teach my kids in ways to do the same and hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and keep going. When they come to get my guns, they disappear, along with me. When it does happen, take a look at the statment below, stay safe and protect all that is dear to you all.

I vote and I'm in the NRA and where the officials stand on gun control is a major factor on how I vote. We just have to hold our ground stay united and suport the organizations that support our values and voice our values (respectfully) some of the antis will never understand I no but we can't give up we just gotta keep on fighting.
" This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will take our lead into the future!" Adolph Hitler 1935
Scary isn't it.

Sharpshooter, I fear if Hitler had not said that, We would have already lost our guns. People vilianize Hitler(and rightfuly so) and what he stood for so much they refuse to sound like or emulate him in any way, at least people with half a brain any way.
Unless its the polititions in California! No offense against the right minded citizens of that great state.

Popgun, you speak words with a lot of wisdom.
You are correct about the gun laws here in Australia. It is unfortunate that the only people affected by restrictive gun laws are the law abiding citizens who are gun owners. The usual cliches floated around here when they introduced the new laws...."Outlaw Guns and Only Outlaws Will Have Guns"...."Guns Don't Kill People, People Kill People" etc etc etc, but you are right. Law abiding citizens comply because that is the nature of the beast....they obey the laws put into place by the elected leaders. I know I have handed in firearms on two occasions, even though it was painful and I didn't agree with it. Luckily I was fairly compensated in monetary terms, but I still miss my pistols and the enjoyable times I had with friends at the range (we can't use pistols to hunt out here).
There is no doubt in my mind that the time will come when there will be no private firearms ownership in Australia. It may not be in my lifetime, but it will come. The Anti's here in Australia are being advised by the Anti's over there (or so we are led to believe) and they are using that advice unfortunately to reasonable effect. As an aside, I wonder if Australia is being used as a proving ground for "anti" tactics? Hm, food for thought there. These Anti's are a minority group but they are very select in who they recruit and "talk" to, consequently they become a voice to be reckoned with when its time to vote. The Anti's jump up and down, scream and shout and make a lot of noise to the political parties to make sure that they are heard and as everyone knows...the squeaky wheel gets the grease. The politicians listen to them because they want votes.
There is nothing to be gained by resorting to violent action. It creates division in the population and I see that as a bad thing. A nation divided is a nation weakened. United we stand, divided we fall!
Cheers, Vince
