Try using your first joint in your middel finger and index finger coming from behind and under the scope, not from the side of it...

Still wasn't sufficient room to get to the charge handle. No big deal, I'll just get and extension.

Many say you don't need them if you keep your gun oiled up enough. If you look at my article on refurbishing a rolling block, I know what happens to a receiver if the pins are allowed to rotate! You will notice that the hammer and trigger in an AR do not rotate around the pins - their pins rotate in the receiver. I don't want any wear occuring on my AR receiver if I can prevent it.

I always use blue thread lock on the pins! Dry all the oil from the receiver and assemble it dry then apply a small drop of blue thread lock to the ends of the pins in the receiver (capilary action gets it were it needs to be). Dont use to much so it wont get into the trigger. Let dry over night and oil as you like. the pins wont move and can still be removed with a small delrin punch.
And to much oil in an AR is not a good thing! mostly the tight tolerances of the custom triggers. The nature of the beast means gas and goobers will collect in the over done oiling, and can cause trouble, including short stroking and misfires if not cleaned regularly.

That's a good idea. Wish I could use it on may M&P .22LR. It has a wider lower receiver because its poly and the mil-spec anti-rotation pins do not work. I haven't had good results using blue thread lock on plastics.

I use a SMALL amount of Black silicone on the pins in a poly receiver. Cavalry Arms ect ect... you will have to let it dry for 24 hours. I use the stuff for automive use. Once it dries its like glue, but still can be pulled apart with a delrin punch! It wont hurt the receiver in any way.

This is great, will set-up to do this. that should be enough to hold those pins and let the trigger and hammer rotate around the pins.

While I was flying back from CA today, my barrel and handguard arrived!!! A bit excited to say the least. The barrel is 24" Varmint 1:8 twist from White Oak Armory (thanks again Dawgdad!).

I had the barrel heavily fluted. I didn't want the gun feeling front heavy. Picked up the small items I needed to complete the bolt assembly at the gun show last weekend.

Here is the entire set-up. Weight and balance feels good. Its a Clark carbon fiber handguard and it weights 1/2 a pound less than the lighter metal handguards. I'm trying to decide if I want to machine some slots in it for cooling. Entire gun with scope weights about 9 pounds.
