10Ring,

Thats scary, Shocked Somehow I'd have thought a persision machine would be a tenth of a milimeter or some other small measurement. Not a large one. Confused

Well thats ok I guess I'll deal with it. Smile

Now 10Ring I got to tell you your doing what I want to do on the side with my machining skills (Gunsmithing). Razz Actually that was the reason I choise that over Electronics for the thing I do in college Very Happy

Yeah, it was pretty stressful for a while because i even had to set and tool machines myself. Sad

Oh geeze, electronics is another that i fell into....but that's because my machines failed due to a drunk maintance guy on my shifts. When you have to, ya really do learn quick and when you show you are capable, ya sometimes get a REAL GOOD $$$$ bonus Very Happy

10Ring,

So what do you mainly do as a gunsmith now that the "stressful" part ended ??

Actually nothing too much other than basic revolver triggers and full Glock work. I recently had a TIA (mini stroke) and take it easy pretty much because i'm limited to what i can do. I used to do everything, mostly customise revolvers, 1911's, rifles, and you guessed it, Glocks Very Happy I soon dropped 1911's and rifles as a main money maker because they weren't makin money for me and time was getting tight. Then revolvers and Glocks and just stayed in that work.
Since my TIA though, i have forgotten some stuff that i haven't been doing as often (rifles and 1911's) but everything is still "basic" knowledge and if i had to do it (without heavy machining) i could probably do it....but then again, i really don't know bacause i haven't since.

I now stick to what i know....Glocks, revolvers, fishing, and cooking Very Happy Laughing Oh yeah, the kids to Shocked Cool

10Ring,

I see thats cool Smile I'm thinking about going into something "specific" as a main and then do other things on the side if I ever decided to be a full time gunsmith Razz

Tell me what do you have in your shop ?? Confused I'd be interested to know what a gunsmith has in his machine shop Razz

Dimitri,

I did most things in my bro-in-law's shop that needed anything like lathe work, threading, or re-barreling. At home i just have a drill press and the basics (screw drivers, punches and such) because that's all i mostly needed. I have all my stones here as well and i use a dremel to polish usually because nothing really needed more.
But don't get me wrong because i still have all my end mills, cutters and stuff....i just haven't used them in a while because the last thing i did before my stroke was fitted a Caspian slide to a Glock for a guy and fit the barrel as well as re-cut the chamber and feed ramp a bit. And the biggest thing when you do this type of work is making sure the machine is square by tramming the head. Wink
