Simon, how do you tell the difference between a male and female Chamois before you shoot? Or doesn't it matter?
Nice pictures! Hunting in terrain like that must keep you in great shape!!

Hello Slimjim
Usually hunt them in the rut - June / July , the males are bigger darker animals and have a scent gland between the horns , you can see thru binos , usually. And the male horns are thicker at the base , o yeah and the males have balls !!
Females are good eating for stews !

Bushy, a trained eye can see that the females eat the stew.

Your right, I've just up for pokin' fun on all the topics this weekend. I think Aoraki has a great occupation. Maybe someday I can go there. Next chance I have for getting out of the country is to Denmark in October. Australia and New Zealand are going to have to wait a year or two.

You should put Denmark aside and visit the best two countrys in the world, we may be at the lower part but as far as we are concerned these places are as close to perfection as need be....well most of it is.

Perfection? Yer gun laws suck. Still I would like to visit both places. Made it to within 10 knotical miles of Sidney in 1968, but the Navy wouldn't let us do a port call. Sent us north to American Samoa instead.

Are your maps oriented North-up or South-up?

I made it into Perth in 1978. It was wonderful. The USS Enterprize anchored off-shore with its escorts. 10,000 sailors drank the town dry of milk. We hadn't had fresh milk since we had left Hawaii 3 months prior.

Yup...Nothing like a tall glass of fresh cold milk with a double shot of whiskey to get your day started...
