Dimitri, I hope it all turns out right, but let me tell you a short story that happened to a friend who bought a laser in China (and that's even very dangerous for us because lasers are forbitten in Belgikstan). He was so happy when he could go collect his package at the post office, that he didn't ride straight home but stopped at another friend's place to show him his new goodies. When they opened the box, there were no lasers but 2 empty bottles of shampoo, which made my other friend say: "How did this chinese know that you're bald?" Smile

But for your info it all worked out fine after the bald friend wrote an angry mail to the chinese stating that he was going to come over for a visit and he was sure he would find him...

Well done Dimitri! Glad you got a good outcome, and yes i also owned a CB radio back in the mid '70' rubber ducky, tenfour & the reat of that crap.

Some of the reasons they lost favour to UHF, was due to a high amount of Q.R.Mary, (Overlapping broadcasts) static, etc. When living in Sydney a group of us would get together late at night and go on a fox hunt through suburbia. The object of the game is a car is chosen as the fox, and given a 10min head start, then the other mobiles, would start cross-referancing from the fox's frequent chatter or insults (A minimum of one transmission ever two minutes, for at least 15 sec) We would then hunt him or her down in our cars using mobile units using our gain signal to close in on them! We stole the idea off truckers who used the same system to hunt down obnoxious CB users on their home stations, and appropriately got flogged! When the fox is finally caught, the one who caught him can either be the new fox, or designate a new on, it's just like playing tag, with CB's and cars... Great fun! And I still miss it. Cheers erny!

That would be difficult, only 1.3 BILLION of them to sort through. Shocked

Yes I've heard of this, lots of people going from CB to the Amateur bands. However my primary reason for this was getting road condition updates from truckers as I am driving. So I know what to expect up ahead before the radio (AM/FM) tells me. I only know one person with a CB, my God Father, and he only has one in his commercial rig. So I don't know if that counts. I have both a 27Meg and a 44Meg unit for my car when travelling. I rarely use the old 27Meg unit though...nobody on air these days. Best time I have found to use the 27Meg is around November here in Australia...good "skip" conditions and there seems to more people "playing".

Have a mate who is very heavily into HF and also dabbles in UHF on occasions...but his radio is mainly for when he is cruising the outback in his 4WD.

Cheers, Vince

Vince,

Are there regular people on specific channels down there on the Amature bands in the outback etc to communicate?

Sure is mate.

When you get off the "beaten Track" over here...or go outback...you are right out in the middle of nowhere. HF, or the amateur band, is the best way to communicate, other than using a satellite phone.

VKS Network

ExplorOz

IPS Aussie Govt Site

Royal Flying Doctor Service

There are various regular scheds run by RFDS and VKS737 everyday, and there is always someone on air from VKS737 most of the day somewhere.

Cheers, Vince

Yesterday was Victoria Day, nobody works, my package should be here today unless they forget to put it on the truck, in which case it will be here tomorrow.
