Glockman,
Normal hippies are the hippies that grew up in the 60's but realize its not the same decade anymore and do not act/dress/do the same like they used to all the time, and don't go off protesting about everything anymore ether.
There are still some hippies that have not changed and do not realize its been over 30 years from that era. Who I find seem to be Anti-gun, Anti-hunting, vegetarians who dress similar to the 60's and 70's and you see them on the corner of the streets still protesting some thing or another.

Seems to me that a lawyer that can't overcome the issue of handlaods is a pretty piss poor lawyer.
There are plenty of factory loads that are as deadly - or more so - than my handloads. I'd be happy to have the issue come up ( it would mean I survived) and present samples of same. The prosecuting attorney would look pretty foolish when it was over. IMHO.

We can't make common sense out of anything a Lawyer uses to win a case.. They will do what ever it takes...And yes IMO all lawyers are piss poor, unless there defending me..LOL

I am not going to change until I can find ammo that is as accurate as mine.
I am less concerned about what might happen after I pull the trigger and much more concerned with what is going to happen if I don't.
If you have nothing then that is all they can get.

If I shot someone and the issue is, was I using factory or hand loads? Well then I can only imagine that my decision to shoot in the first place might be questionable.
I shot the gunman after he killed 5 unarmed people. I doubt if anyone cares what kind of ammo I'm using, depleted uranium white phosphorus exploding Uncle Billy Bob's Elephant stoppers or Winchesters.
If the reason I shot is not clear, was he armed, knife or gun, and I could have taken some other action, called the police or I contributed to escalating the conflict to the point of deadly force then I suppose the issue could come up, but I doubt if that will be my major problem.
As a Firearms Instructor teaching a CCW class of course I will tell you to use Factory ammo. I don't care if you've been reloading all your life, my instruction is for all. That means the guy who bought his first gun the day before the class and the life long reloader. Besides I am not teaching you to shoot but rather when to shoot and how and where you may carry.
To quote the poet "If you can keep your head when others about you are loosing theirs." That's the trick! Training and conditioning helps us to do this.
A real man once said this about gunfights, its best to take careful aim and be quick about it.

The forensic replicability factor is the main reason.
The “regular bullets weren’t deadly enough for you” argument is not the big reason I recommend against handloads for defense.
I have always carried my handloaded +P hollowpoint ammo for my carry gun. Thanks for pointing out the (ridiculous) legal arguments. I will now carry Hornady "personal defense" ammo, even though it gives me about 260 fps less velocity. I never thought about the liability issues and legal lies involved in court cases. My intention was always to make sure the right guy ends up being the dead one.
Thanks for the post.

I will continue to use the most accurate ammo in my concealed carry guns - my hand loads.

And because of the method that I use to reload them...More reliable...

My CCP instructor made the point that using factory hollow points could cause us the same court problems as reloads. Excessive force?

The handloads I use are 185 grain Hornady XTP. Hornady loads and sells the same bullet in their defensive cartridges. Mine just aren't as powerful as theirs, but real close...Especially if you consider that mine leave a 3" barrel at 850 fps at 8 feet.
I stand with PaulS...
