Welcome to Hunting Nut !!!

Full length re-sizing will give you the best function.
Since you’ll only be using your brass in one gun, neck sizing is an option.
More consistent alignment.
The downside is, eventually they will get harder and harder to close the bolt. (assuming this is a bolt gun)
To the point they will need a full length re-size.
By backing down on the pressure it’s possible that you may never need to do a full length re-size.

My suggestion is to do a partial full length re-size. Once again because the brass will only be used in that one rifle.
There are headspace gauges available to take measurements with.
Using one of these you can set your sizing die to push the shoulder of the case back about .002. The neck will be re-sized and the body will receive a minimal amount of sizing.

To say one method is better than another !!! I don’t know !!! Competition shooters are still arguing that one !!!

My 270's favorite bullet is 140 Gr, with the same powders that have mentioned.

My Rem 700 .270 will give me 3 shot groups the size of a dime at 100yds time after time. I use Sierra 130gr SBT's with IMR 4831 just shy of max load. Rem Core loks I had to slow them down considerably. Your gun will have a specific load combo all of it's own.

I bet you can find a load that has adequate accuracy and function for your hunting .270, If you want to show off at the range or play with something go ahead and sample some partial sizing techniques. But until you're 100% with that use the fully sized cases. Maybe I'm too careful but I've had some learning experiences with ammunition loaded for accuracy while disregarding function even in bolt guns and I'm sticking to fully sized, function tested ammo for hunting.

Can’t say I’ve ever had any function issues while using partially sized cases !!!

I did however have trouble learning how to set the die correctly.
That’s why I always suggest the use of a headspace gauge.

Im with fnuser on neck sizing for hunting. my rifle doesnt like them at all so I follow the manuals ins for partial length resize, no problems. I have been told my chamber MAY be a little off centre thus the dislike of neck sizing. the other thing I dislike is a hard to close bolt on a hunting round as I lost a red hind years ago with a bolt that wouldnt close on a tight case with a deer standing 40yrds away laughing.....

I have neck-size only reloading equipment. I have had issues with having the bolt hard to close on my Rem 700 in .308. I think that had a lot to do with the Federal Brass I was using elongating after a couple of reuses.

I use Remington brass in my .270 Tikka and have not had any hard to close bolt issues after multiple neck-sizing only reloads. I use new or once-fired cases for my hunting rounds as general practice. This should help avoid any hard to close bolt concerns when you want the buck to stop here.

I trimmed my cases only if they exceeded max length. I believe the case stretch the shoulder to base distance was what was causing the bolt to be hard to close. When there was a hint that a case was becoming hard to close I would cycle that brass case into a pile for the day I get a press with reloading dies that size the case.

It is a possibility, I have never had this problem as I always full length size.

That would be the case. I still use a Lee Classic loader and have not invested in a press and dies. It only happened to about 6 cases - all Federal which is soft brass. I don't have this issue with Remington brass with my .270. Until I start reloading for my AR, I really don't need the press - my accuracy for 3 of my 4 loads is less than 1/2 MOA. Maybe Santa's Helper will be smile upon me for Christmas next year!

Sounds like ya got the problem isolated, stick with what works. Save the federal brass until you get a press and full length dies. If its accurate keep it up.

I am sure that I just posted this on another forum but it is on topic so.....
I full length size new cases and from then on they get only neck sized.
The process I use is all cases through each step before going to the next step:
1. neck size and deprime (only size most of the neck - leaving some of the neck to support the front of the case)
2. trim (rarely removes any brass)
3. clean cases
4. inspect and remove any cleaning media
5. prime
6. charge with powder
7. visually inspect for light or heavy charges
8. seat bullets
9. fire and repeat

I don't load any different with my hunting loads because my loads are all hunting, plinking, and target loads. I get .3 to .75 MOA accuracy consistently under a wide range of conditions over a long period of time. I do not crowd maximum charges because I care more about accuracy and consistency than velocity. I keep my shooting distances in the +/- 1" point blank range because that is about the same range that a 10mph wind can blow the bullet close to 2" off point of aim. I have cases that have been cycled over 20 times without full length sizing.

Now you know more about my reloading habits than you ever wanted to.

Besides the Federal brass, I've had some suggest that my .308 brass was also stretching due to running at max load/pressure. Loading down from max can have its advantages.
