That's easy just go to any city park (that's where all the birds are) grab the drake of you choice, throw him under your arm, and slide boomer into your new holster. He may squawk a little the first few times but like all good holsters there is a breaking in period.

Quail- 2
Me- another goose egg.
Killer day for stomping about though.
80*, nice breeze, 5 more hours of upland humpin' with the 20ga pump. Lot's of stuff popping out of bushes (I aint supposed ta shoot ) like meadow larks, tweety birds, doves.....
Me and two big Jack's (no season, no limit) played hide-n-seek for two hours. Man they are fast and agile. Man am I slow on the draw. My arms were pretty noodled by then from totin' the tank (excuse #131). Second dood juuuust made it outta dodge before the 3rd shell chambered. These things are like mini long eared cheetah's. They are rockets, really darty and are a blast to flush and stalk.
Catch me off-gaurd everytime when I'm expecting something to fly, and it runs from the corner of my eye.
I also stumbled onto where a lot of them bed down....here bunnybunnybunny.
Next time, lepus californicus.

What a day.
65*, sunny, birds galore, few Jack's, missed a BUNCH as stuff kept flushing behind me. Made 2 killer spinning shots and got me some LUNCH, and on the second shot too! Not too shabby for an old, slow pump gunner. (can't wait to get the Benelli!!!)
On the way back to camp a covey of quail crossed a dirt road 'bout 100y in front of me. I stopped, and watched, and watched and watched....it went on for 3 mins. I was dumbstruck.
They just had lunch and were going for a drink on somone's property. I snuck out of my truck and crept over to them bunching up under a big bush on the edge of the property. Got within 50y and I was in shock, never seen so many quail. They got a good look at me and ran, straight down the driveway towards the house. But not before I flushed a bunch accross the road and into the brush...and it was ON. Here a bird, there a bird, everywhere a bird bird. The wind was really howling now and they took full advantage of it with their covey mates squaking the regroup call....they'd break with that 30 mph tail wind and be gone over the road just that quick, with private property as a backstop.
I missed a bunch that back-flushed as these things were rockets in that wind and I just aint that fast. And I was alone w/o any blockers, dang it. I was spinning, pumping, stalking, it was nutty! One of them still had food in his mouth. That'll teach ya to eat and run.
Man was the action hot and fast for a while though. And walking back to my truck I stepped on a Jack and it bolted....scared the bean sauce outta me!
Got back to HQ in time for a BBQ with quail, dove, crackers, cheese , etc., and frosty adult beverages. My clubmates cleaned up big time and there was plenty for everyone.
Wow- what a killer day with some upland hunting gone completely wild...aint nuttin like it. You guy's feakin' shoulda been there.
Man, it's good to be alive and back in the Hunt again. This is what it's all about.
