I recently received my August edition of Field & stream. Inside is an article bt David Petzal on game bullets, strengths and weaknesses. While not going into the depth I'd like it's still pretty informative and covers Barnes, Hornady, Nosler, Remington, Sierra, Swift and Winchester. It also
shows the shapes of recovered bullets and describes something called a
Ballistic Buffalo (quite unique). We need all the information we can get on our game bullets so this is a step in the right direction. You might want to take a look. Best wishes.

Cal,
I saw the article and agree it offers an objective comparison and comments on a variety of bullets. I really liked the recommendations and data on preferences for certain game animals. All the best...

I read it too, a good article...I tested bullets on sneaker soles back in 1999 before a whitetail trophy hunt in Wy, my range got a few dump truck load's of new sneaker rubber soles ( factory rejects for sum reason) any ways I would line up about 25 soles and at point blank range fire bullets into them, peal back the soles until I found the bullets. Thats when I became a fan of nolser B.tip. we all know they shoot very well, but how do they hold up..well a 180gr 30 cal b.tip fired point blank out of a 300win mag, weighed 150 gr and had a good mushroom with a little shank showing. A 7mm rem mag 150gr B.tip weighed 100gr with shank driven up into the mushroom, no shank below mushroom pedals. That test and my real life test of 5 dead whitetails with those 2 bullets, say those two bullets are great deer bullets !.. I fired a couple of each and they were within 2gr of each other.

Are there any more big bore fans like me out there that care to comment on the latest and greatest loads for the 45/70? That is the ultimate round.
