Seems that if the only difference is in point of impact then that difference is worth going ahead and sizing...

If there were any significant accuracy advantage in sizing new brass I would agree with you but I've never found this to be the case even with economy brands like Winchester and Remington. Resized brass at times doesn't even shoot as well as new brass.

How long it takes also depends on how many cases you have to process. I'm well on my way through 500 7mm Remington Magnum cases and it's thus far taken me quite a bit over half an hour.

I bought 500 Nosler seconds so I can shoot for some time without relying on resized brass. Besides, it's fairly easy to remember that bullets from new brass hit 1.5 to 2 inches higher than from resized brass at least with Sierra Matchkings.

I've just started working up some loads with Hornady's 190 gr. Interlocks. Interestingly, with this bullet, the point of impact from both new brass and from resized brass is about the same.

Gents...He's (the OP) is talking about .44 caliber handgun brass here. And to insure that it is concentric it sould be resized to insure that any damage in manufacturing, shipping and handling is corrected before loading. Personally I resize new rifle brass for the same reason.

What it all boils down to is that it's a personal thing. I doubt that it has any realized effect on the brass or the down range results for most of us on here. I, for one, am not a benchrest shooter, but I have seen enough out of round case mouths on both new handgun and rifle cases to warrent resizing...

I'll bet, by now, that ol' Stovey has already made his decision as to what he will do with them new .44 magnum cases. I bet they have been loaded, fired and now he HAS no choice but to resize them... Very Happy

Bushy is exactly right about it being a personal issue !!!
And yes, we are dealing with a .44 mag here.
But were also talking about making it shoot out to 200 yards.

If your dealing with 50 or 100 new cases blow them out (plinking loads) then get down to business.
If you got 500-1,000 new cases, That’s a lot of components to just blow away !!!
Definitely grounds for an argument.
Segregate any suspect cases out, use them for fouling shots and go about using them for precision work.

Grumulkin, Your assertion that new brass always hits `1.5 - 2 inches high is not always true.
The differences in case volume with new brass versus once fired can differ greatly once you start getting into larger size cases such as the 300 Win mag. Especially if the chamber itself is on the large side.

Once again this variables thing has come into play.
Neither is right and neither is wrong !!!

I never asserted that new brass "always" hits high. I said that with that particular load they hit high in the rifle I'm using. Read further down the post and you will see that I said that with a different bullet the POI with new brass was pretty much the same as with resized brass.

The take home messages are that:

1. You don't get more accurate loads by resizing new brass.
2. The point of bullet impact may be (but not always) different with new unsized brass than with resized once fired brass.

Since I did no testing with resized new brass, it's possible that the point of impact difference is from different friction in the neck of the case between new and once fired brass and not from the lack of resizing per se.

I also reload for several straight walled cartridges, by the way, and have found no accuracy advantage of resized vs new unmolested brass in them.

My apologies !!!
I did read the second line and by the choice of the word “interestingly” I took it you found it odd that it happened.

In your testing with straight walls, have you ever tested them at 200 yards?
Stovepipe is gathering this info for the use of target shooting at that distance. ( He stated that in another thread )

Well dude we are going to have to agree to disagree. If you are satisfied with you point of impact changing that's up to you. I have my opinions on the subject and will continue to reload the same way I have for 25 years. I am satisfied with the accuracy I get with my process.
