Score one for the Crackshot! I harvested a large doe this morning. I went o my blind last evening to put more corn out for the deer and jumped a bunch of does, went this morning and sat in the blind awhile and when I was just getting tired of sitting, out comes a group of doe's, I picked the largest one and poped her in the noodle with the 44mag DEP, came home got the Polaris and brought her home. Will butcher the old girl tonight.

I have seen more Bucks this past couple of days I can't believe it. I walked up on a bedded buck yesterday afternoon. He go up looked at me walked around looked at me layed down and got up and walked right toward me to about 20 feet. I didn't shoot, because all I have are doe tags !!!

My son watching me knew something was up "because I saw you stop suddenly" Then I saw the deer. This guy was so liquered up he actually starts walking toward me from down wind. ( new discovery masking scent of fleild mud and engine dirt.) Anyway the buck walks around me givng me plenty of broad side shots and dibby bops off.

He would have made a nice set of back straps. may tomorrow i'll see an other big fat doe..

I am going out tonight again, I have two more doe tags left and a buck tag to fill, no hurry though, I still have muzzle loader season to go. Very Happy and my Daughter still has her two tags.

Let's see...The last time I took a Blacktail buck (forked horn) with my Colt SAA .357 magnum (with stock sights) at 25 yards was a bit ago. It was taken by trackin' and stockin'. Concidering all of the above posts I plan to stay out of this string...Baiting???And tree stands??? Bet I have said enough already. Haven't I... Fencing

Oh. And I'm back from my Thanksgiving trip to the Foothill and Horse camp. What a bunch of rides and Love that deep fried turkey. Not to mention good friends and beer. Hope all had a good start on the merry season...

I take it you dont agree with baiting, eh Bushmaster? You must havelived in California to long or never sunk to your neck in a cedar swamp trying to "stalk" were its so thick you couldnt see 10 feet.
We bait on this property because we only have 5 acres we can hunt and that is all swamp, except for the 50 yard swath we cut out for our "ground" blind's and shooting lanes.

No...As a matter of fact I'm from the Great Northwest and have hunted most of my life in those woods and mountains. I do have some experiance in the High Sierras though...I hunt. I don't bait, I don't ambush (tree stands) and I don't hunt with dogs. I'm a still hunter and tracker...

I personaly invite you to come to my neck of the woods and "try" those tactics where we hunt. Wont work! You take 20 steps into the swamp and the deer are in the next county getting shot at by some other hunter in a ground blind.

I have to agree with you to a point Crackshot about Michigan deer because they are pretty skittish. But when i was in Oscoda hunting on some federal land, it was just me and my old Smith 29 that walked up on a big doe that i was able to get within 10 yards of her, and she walked towards me to make the shot even better. Smile That was a VERY RARE occasion, and took a very long time stalking but when you get the areas (which are most now) that are over hunted with gun happy a$$ holes over shooting and/or with auto weapons....yeah full auto....then it does make it hard. The only way in lower Michigan is usually to hunt from a tree or ground blind, but the upper still has a lot of low pressure hunted deer and your chances to stalk there is better than 70%.....for now.

Yes ! The upper! not were I'm at. I have 5 acres to hunt near home and the deer are very nervous.
I wonder somtimes if hunters out west know how tightly packed we are here in the north east?

That i don't know? But our pressured deer is also related to development and the loss of prime woods and wetlands for them to bed.

Hummmm...Here in the west as people encroach on the deer's habitat the deer seem to climate quite well. Not unusual to see deer prancin' across your front yard after eatin' the rose hips and buds off your favorite roses.

Hell, the only "live" deer i see in/near town now is when i drive past Selfrige ANG and see 'em behind the fence Sad But even then, those deer don't even budge when a jet fires up or takes off wtf
