Here's a photo of the Wife's second kill of this year's gun season. I didn't get a photo of the first one, as we had to track her better than a mile over 2 days (She fired the first shot just before dark on Monday, we caught up to the deer several times and finally put her down just after 1 pm on Tuesday). By the time we recovered her, my battery was dead again. She killed this one on Thursday morning, about an hour after daybreak. The doe and her fawns, along with an additional doe and her fawns, were spotted working their way through thick cover toward me. The wind was blowing from me toward the deer, so I made my presence known to the deer, which pushed all 6 of them toward the Wife, in sort of a mini-drive. She picked out the "right" one and made a great neck shot at 65 yards, killing the doe instantly.

I had a little luck, not the biggest bodied Elk in the woods but it was in the right place at the right time.
Saw the little flock of turkeys walk past past the night before.
Just south of Flagstaff on Tuesday Dec. 2, 2008 at about 8:30 am. This is the first time that getting a Elk didn't involve quartering and packing it out, drove the truck right up to it.

The little flock of turkeys that walked by the night before. They were only about 50 feet away but they never saw me. Took me what seemed like forever to get the camera out and take the picture. Surprisingly the flash did not spook them.

I got skunked this year. On my mule deer hunt I saw 9 does, 1 antelope and 2 coyotes, 1 rattlesnake. On my cow elk hunt I was not even seeing fresh sign until the last day when another hunter spooked 8 cows and I saw them racing through the woods. I also saw 1 antelope and 5 coyotes and 2 mulie bucks that stood around as though daring me to shoot.
Maybe next year I'll get some venison.

Ohhh..I know how that feels. During my bull moose draw...I saw 27 moose....not one was a bull, I couldn't believe it. Yet during my pre-scouting, I saw 9 bulls in 3 weekends...
But, on the very last morning before I broke camp and headed for home, fortune was kind when I got my big Muley.

Nice one! He's been scraping trees and brush. Has anyone ever tried rattling horns to bring in Muleys?
