Encountered this website tonight. The pics say it all.

DON'T loose your Concentration

Keep your wits about you when handloading your cartridges, and don't allow any distractions.

I hate it when that happens. Reloading is a safe, but serious business and I agree concentration is essential. All the best...

Even when you THINK you're concentrating things can go awry.

I was loading some .243Win to work up loads for 55gr & 90gr bullets today & after finishing the 55gr loads I made sure I input the correct load for the 90gr bullets into the Chargemaster, put the powder in the first case & seated the bullet.

Fortunately I'm a "check & verify" type, as I had omitted to back out the seater & the cartridge OAL was 2.629" rather than the 2.650" it was supposed to be.
IF I'd missed it, then PROBABLY nothing would have happened because the load was 10% off max. but if I'd done the same thing with a maximum load..........

Anyone got a .243 collet for the RCBS bullet puller? Embarassed

ALL of the blown up firearms we see at our store are the results of reloaded ammo. We have a collection and I use some of the guns to demonstrate the need for focus and attentativeness when reloading.

One of the main points stressed by experienced handloaders is to always use a powder that gives a load density of at least 60%. This helps preclude double charges. Additionally, the squib load is responsible for some blow ups. The powder charge must always be verified. Progressive loaders are moer difficult to verify the powder drop, but, the wise will incorporate a visual check for powder drop on each and every round.

Of course, I am posting to the knowledgable here, but, when we help others to learn, these are important proceedural steps.

No activity is fool proof to a sufficently qualified fool. And reloading is NOT even fool resistant. Wonder who he will try to sue?
