I've had countless requests from people over the years to put together a guide on how to do this. It really is very easy to do. I usually only do it with my antelope, deer and elk I dress the old fashioned way.

Anyway as this is new it might have some typos or something confusing I need to explain better... so any suggestions one might have are welcomed.

Now I just have to finish the caping guide.

Thanks DallanC, don't have any of those critters here in NJ but I hear a cousin may have moved to WY. I think it's been too many years since we've seen each other. When I do better with my long shots and can deal with windage I think I'll put in for the lottery and pay her a visit. Very Happy
She worked in the building where the Oscars are held. What a switch!!!

Longest shot I've ever taken on an antelope was right around 250 yards. The closest was around 80 yards. You would be fine. Use hills and gully's to your advantage and sneak up close. Both me and my wife use .243's and only once have I ever wished for more gun... it was a blustery day 4 years ago and I had a trophy goat at 350 yards. I knew the little .243 couldnt buck the wind like a heaver slug could so I tried to circle around and get closer... well the buck was too smart for that and just as I was completing the circle sneaking up over a hill for the shot, he jumped the fence onto private property.

Antelope are unique animals and seem fairly exotic. They are alot of fun to hunt.

I have a Rem. 700 in .270 with Leupold VX III. Haven't really used it. NJ is shotgun , slug, or muzzleloader, the same where I hunt in MD. With the hog and the black bear used a Marlin GG .45-70 at 60 yds or less. The deer was 20+yds with my Win. Apex .50cal. So many animals to shoot, so little money to do it with. My wife also wants me to get an elk! Taking a week to go with my brother and his buddies on a hog hunt in April. I tell her I don't know if I should because I'll have to take the money from some place else. She talks me into going! Life is good.

Hummm...A Buck Special (119). I religated mine to my survival kit and use a Buck personel (118) for my hunting chores now. Found the Special to too large for the surgery I do...Good knife though or I wouldn't have it...

Nice, looks fairly easy. With Antelope I usually skin them then quarter. It helps me keep most of the hairs off the meat. I think I'll give that a try next time.

Very Happy Dallan, I'll have to try that technique next time I go hunting by myself. I'm getting to old to try and overload my ticker dragging ole Mossy Horns out of the woods. It would be much easier to do it your way and pack out the meat. Leave some scraps for the varmints and the birds too. I'm going to put together my soft pack with plastic bags, gloves, etc. and take that with me next time.
Thanks for sharing a great article. Well done.

Dont use plastic bags, the meat needs to breath. Use flour sacks or pillow cases Wink

Great post, thanks for that ! I used a similar system on a road kill doe recently.
I have one question-do you guys hang your game for any length of time or do you field dress and butcher it to help with transport,as I understand you hunt at some distance out into the wild?
I usually leave my venison hanging for 3-10 days dependant on weather, and pheasant and partridge get 5-14 days too. Cheers Cheers guys
