Heck, I'm out of powder to make mine. I guess I'll have to start grinding a new batch of salt peter, charcoal, and sulfur.

My experience over the last few years has been: The lights do last a long time, but not what the adverts claim. The light is sufficient, if you buy the higher wattage bulbs.
~90% of the bulbs in our house have been changed to CFLs, and my wife says our electric bill has remained about the same, despite claims of economy.
With the latest revelations on safety, we are considering switching back to regular incandescent bulbs.
